Those Evil Gay People
We scare the bejeezus out of heterosexuals. But how does one cope with such fear? As I read through what gay people are responsible for (uhm, the destruction of Greek civilization, to start), I am reminded of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a charming tract mailed to me one sunny day many years ago.

"I am totally appalled and disgusted," read the accompanying note, decrying the gay-positive content of a student handbook I'd been involved with. "As a freelance journalist I will do everything in my power to sensationalize this 'filth' of yours... WORLDWIDE. Let the Christian people know that the Golden Calf is back in Babylon." Then there was a bunch of stuff
about how I'm mindlessly following the evil teachings of the Jews.

The Protocols (a well known fake) are a plan to bring forth the Kingdom of the anti-Christ. The instructions include for Jews to seduce youth, prey upon vice, destroy family life, destroy respect for religion, introduce filth into literature, propagate poisons like alcohol and drugs, and divert the masses with lotteries and other games. Plus destroying financial stability (world bankruptcy and all that).

Sound familiar? In 2004, replace the word "Jew" with the word "gay." The same weapons of hatred and fear are used over and over. And we have yet to eradicate anti-Semitism, which means homophobia has a long way to go, as well. But in a way, we should be thankful for the nutters.

Let's take a look at what we're responsible for:

2. Scared?
"We scare the bejeezus out of heterosexuals"

I can't speak for everyone but I can assure you that there is not one Homosexual that I am afraid of. In fact I am not afraid of anyone, why should I be? Whether you believe that homosexuality is a choice or whether you believe that people are born homosexuals really doesn't matter to me. It is your personal business. The fact that you are gay does not change me one bit.
I do not agree with the gay lifestyle, thats my choice. As long as I treat you fairly if our paths cross then there shouldn't be a problem.
There is one thing that does bother me though. It seems that every gay person I have ever met seems to have a need to tell me they are gay, why is that? That is more information than I need. Peoples sex lives are their own business. I don't have to accept someone else's values or life style. All I need to do is treat people with respect when interacting with them. Mutual respect can lead to understanding.

It's not even sarcastic, just an anti-hetero slap. Offensive.

Or is this a hit & run tactic?

7. Hey... I'm gay....
I just felt the need to tell you that. And by the way... you may think you aren't a bigot but saying this:

"I do not agree with the gay lifestyle, thats my choice. As long as I treat you fairly if our paths cross then there shouldn't be a problem.
There is one thing that does bother me though. It seems that every gay person I have ever met seems to have a need to tell me they are gay, why is that?"

Shows me that you are. I suppose you think that EVERY gay person you meet tells you they are gay... then I say, you've met a LOT more gay people than you thought.

11. I'm glad that you are not afraid of homosexuals.
However, I am puzzled how anyone could "disagree with the gay lifestyle". How, exactly does someone disagree with a life style. Perhaps you mean that you disapprove of the gay lifestyle.

If so, then the question becomes, "What is this gay lifestyle that you disapprove of?". Do you mean you disapprove of people of the same sex getting it on? Other than that, I can't think of anything that gays do lifestylewise, that straights don't.

And then, I have to wonder how anyone can disapprove of people who are attracted to each other sexually, acting on that attraction. It seems to me to do otherwise would be dishonest. Would you prefer that gays spend their lives never being themselves, pretending to be straight so you would approve of them?

As far as every gay person you have met telling you they are gay, have you considered that you probably have met many gay people who didn't tell you? And you had no clue?

Those who do tell you probably do so for a variety of reasons. But it is generally a compliment when they do. They are saying that they respect you enough that they want you to know this important thing about them - so you won't have any misconceptions - and so you will respect (or not) their real self and not the person you imagine them to be.

Much clearer than I was in my irritation.

And following your "do not agree" = "disapprove"...

One could not approve of African Americans... and I doubt that too many here would argue that that is not bigoted.

Could it be that our newbie has some RW tendencies in his closet?

And perhaps he let a little of his true self come out in this thread?

These are ironic times. :eyes:

26. You are contradicting yourself!
You say in one breath; "Whether you believe that homosexuality is a choice or whether you believe that people are born homosexuals really doesn't matter to me. It is your personal business." Then in the very next breath you say; "I do not agree with the gay lifestyle, thats my choice."

If you don't have a problem with homosexuality then you wouldn't be saying you have a problem with "the gay lifestyle" knowing very well that being gay ISN'T a lifestyle. If it was, then it would be a choice.

Hey! I'm a lesbian! Now you tell me how the hell that is telling you about my sex life? I didn't mention word one about what I do with my partner between the sheets.

BTW, when a gay person tells you they are gay it usually means they like you, and are getting the hard stuff out of the way in the first place. That way, if you are not an accepting person, then the gay person isn't about to pour countless hours into trying to build a friendship with you.

And btw, treating queers with respect means not calling our LIFE a lifestyle.

4. hi FTBG
The bad news is that you're right. Many people are afraid of gays...or are threatened by them...or use them as a conveniant whipping boy for all the worlds evils...
The good news is that it's thursday and only one more day to go till the weekend!

8. I'm doing great...
Today is the last day of school. I'll be spending much time at the local parks letting the kids run wild. Maybe I'll finally teach son to hit a ball (guess I'd better buy a bat and a ball and two gloves eh?)
Hope you're doing OK.

17. was jesus gay?
in the bible it talks about jesus being with the disciple "that he loved". this disciple was john. i am sure this part of the bible is glossed over by fundamentalist but nevertheless it is in the bible.

25. From the Secret Gospel of Mark,
as related by Clement of Alexandria:

"But the youth, looking upon him (Jesus), loved him and began to beseech him that he might be with him. And going out of the tomb, they came into the house of the youth, for he was rich. And after six days Jesus told him what to do, and in the evening the youth comes to him, wearing a linen cloth over his naked body. And he remained with him that night, for Jesus taught him the mystery of the Kingdom of God."

Clement, however, felt Carpocrates took Secret Mark too far, adding "...'naked man with naked man,' and the other things about which you wrote, are not found."

Funny that part didn't make it in the canon.
