17. Cheney is going to be president
very very soon.
Tenet and Georgie Boy are going down,
but Cheney is one heartbet away from openly ruling
and he is NOT about to let it all go.

Cheney has already established that he does not travel with the pResident and
Cheney has also considerable involvement with
Computer Sciences Corp
which is the parent company of Dyncorp
which services and runs the entire Air Force One fleet of presidential planes and helicopters.

21. No. Cheney is so powerful that he needn't actually be prez.
having a useful dope like Bush covering for him is good enough.

3. My humble opinion...
BushCo will try to spin it that Tenet was "asked" to leave. However...

I think Tenet knows that he no longer has the support of The Company, because of Plame, Chalabi, lord knows what else. The Company is hell-bent on revenge, and Tenet can no longer run interference or protect BushCo from some very pissed off spooks. Hence the resignation...

Anybody else?

6. chib---just a thought---could it be that he was the one who is closing
in on the Plame thing and it's going to land right in the lap of Bush (remember the phone call logs the investigators wanted for Air Force One)and, thus, they want him out and their own dog in to make this thing just disappear with a "search us who was to blame"?? I've had a feeling that a lot of stuff is coming from the inside by someone who wants George's ass and it could be it was all coming from Tenent.

15. I don't think so...
Patrick Fitzgerald, US Atty. for Northern Illinois is the one closing in on the Plame outing. In fact, I think NOTHING is going to deter Fitgerald from bringing charges against the guilty, whether Rove, Libby, or Bush. Especially now that the Feds released a suspected/admitted terrorist back to Syria. Fitz was ready to indict the guy, and Ashcrack just let him go.

Yes, I believe Tenet was possibly a source of leaks against BushCo, but I don't believe his replacement will be any lap dog. The horse has already left the barn.

4. I would think they want everything to appear "business as usual"..
and take a very casual spin to Bush's retaining a lawyer. So something like this looks bad for them.

Of course, your speculation makes perfect sense as these guys are masters at releasing information to push embarassing news off the front pages.

5. I think it is part of the Bush re-election strategy
There has been a pounding by Kerry and others that absolutely no one in this adminisration ever takes responsibility or cleans house. They know, of course, that this will be looked at as though Bush requested his resignation. This is done to show us Bush is running a tight ship and is in charge. It's an election ploy and it saves him from having to do it to Rummy or Cheney as the goats for the general public because that would make the wingers go nuts.

8. Whatever it is, it's not good
The grand jury in the Plame case is getting ready to hand down indictments against several high-ranking members of the Administration. Tenet resigned because he doesn't want to be their scapegoat when the buck (er, blame) gets passed. Or, he was "asked" to resign by BushCo to save their own asses.

Shit, meet fan.

16. Tenet's
going to take the fall; later on, when the dust settles and no one's paying attention, Tenet will get a nice, cushy job from one of Dubya's coporate donors.

19. No - George won't get one of those cushy, Bush crony jobs
He's not part of their inner circle. George is a career civil servant, not a Bush appointee. He was tagged by Bill Clinton to run the CIA, and he's also well-known and liked by several Republicans.

I'm waiting to see if he pens a tell-all tome, though.

BTW, I worked with George Tenet at the WH. As a matter of fact, I interviewed for his secretarial position. He's not as dumb as the GOPsters make him out to be.

20. Tenet is toast.
****** ******* ****** **** is the only "ex"-CIA chief that was not electrocuted. That's one company you do not get out of.

10. plus the CIA will be "leaderless" until at least November
I don't know much about the intel community - will this make it harder or easier for whistleblowers and truth-tellers to come forward?

18. Yes, Bush retaining lawyer. Can't wait for Friday.
Tenet can now be villianized. Replacement choices of who will "clean up" the "problems" will take up the news combined with Tenet "failures." FOX will make it sound like the CIA was guilty of every problem from Iraq to 9/11 -- if not more.

Some RW pundit will charge that Tenet had loose lips allowing an underground of Plame blame transferrence among the conned.

There will be no mention of Anthrax.

Just my guessing.

Bush retaining a lawyer no longer is news enough for the five minute news summaries. By 6pm it may make a 6-second note after a 4-minute Michael Jackson or Scott whats-his-name special report. The half-awake commercial-news listening public will half relate Plame to Tenent and go back to sleep.

Usually a big scandal is released on Friday afternoon. After this, I can hardly wait. Although, they may have had to move early this week.
