Bush said "Some people call you the ELITE I call you my BASE"
Edited on Thu Jun-03-04 10:05 AM by Lou_C
The Bush coup is going down after Michael Moore's movie is released.

We need to place bumpers stickers on our cars to remind people of the line in Moore's movie where Bush is talking to a crowd of rich people and he says to them

"Some people call you the ELITE... I call you my BASE."

People get pissed when someone talks like that especially Bush. LOL

Or use this link for the trailer: http://www.fahrenheit911.com/trailer /

1. And somehow those of us who actually work for a living
but have education and maybe like wine or drive Volvos or -- gasp -- don't hate the French are considered "elite" for being liberals?

3. So some of us drive Volvo's, BMW's, etc.
People do not like an arrogant ass like Bush and it's how he says that they are his base.

2. Great to see that SOMEONE was keeping all these clips
Things like this and the golf shot were amazing but no one seemed to care at the time.

It's great to see that at least SOMEONE was keeping them all, and the cumulative effect promises to be something.

22. I've always said the most damning anti-Bush ads could be made
simply from video of Bush.

5. To be fair, that clip is from one of the "Joke Dinners" in 2000
Al Gore was there too, and also did some "self-deprecating" humor. Bush uttered it in the spirit of a joke, and I remember it very clearly. So, you should put it in context. Of course, this is a case of "It's funny cuz it's true," but there you have it.

9. Joke?
The "joke" was not lost on that corporate CEO's and other ruling rich in that crowd. They loved it and they knew he was bought and paid for by them. His base.

13. As I stated clearly
"It's funny cuz it's true." But it was stated as a joke at a joke dinner, which should be said to put the quotation in context, less overzealous folks rush around claiming that Bush said it seriously, and some Republican owns their ass in an argument when it is pointed out that Bush, ostensibly, was joking.

14. Some things you don't joke about and Bush hit a nerve
You know why he hit a nerve? People are broke and haves are becoming the have not's now.

He is going down. LOL

18. The clip is from October 2000
Whether or not you joke about it is one thing. Here's the context, as I see it. Bush is accused (rightly) of being "a corporation disguised as a candidate" and other things; that is, he helps the rich and the rich only. This is no doubt true. It really is true. Those are the accusations, anyway. In the context of the "self-deprecating" joke dinner, you take the "worst" accusations made against you and admit to them. That's the spirit of the joke. I believe Al Gore made jokes about having "invented the internet" at the same dinner.

Whatever value we place on Bush's joke, I simply wanted to be clear that it was stated as a joke, so people don't get burned when they invoke it. That's all.

15. How about that "WMD's search in the White House" Joke-flick?
I hope Michael Moore shows a copy of that film that Bush made as a joke where he goes around the White House looking for WMD's. Because that would SEAL THE DEAL on his demise.

19. It's not a joke. It's the absolute truth.
I crashed one of those fundraisers here in LA. I watched as all the guests pulled up in front of me in their cars and got out in their jewelry and evening gowns and suits.

Bush's REAL base is the richest of the rich.

He gives them a tax cut, they give him a percentage for his re-election. Very simple gangster politics.

All the working-class people who have been duped into supporting him are suckers.

21. Oh for God's sake
The specific clip in which that statement appears comes from a joke dinner, and the statement was uttered as a joke.

Do I think it is the truth? Yes. Do I think that it is dishonest to cite that statement out of context? Yes. Whether tyhe statement is ultimately true (and I believe that it is) is not relevant to my point.
