'Fahrenheit 9/11' has a date
Fahrenheit 9/11" has a U.S. release date, June 25, that presents both challenges and opportunities for Michael Moore and the consortium of companies that will distribute his new anti-Bush film.
<snip>

Marketing a movie is a major enterprise, one that Hollywood rarely undertakes to manage in 3 1/2 weeks -- the amount of time that will have elapsed between the announcement of a distribution deal and the actual release date for Moore's follow-up to his Oscar-winning documentary, "Bowling for Columbine."

Miramax Film Corp. co-chairmen Harvey and Bob Weinstein announced Tuesday that their new special-purpose company, the Fellowship Adventure Group, will release "Fahrenheit 9/11" in U.S. theaters with Lions Gate Films and IFC Films.

Plans call for the picture to screen at between 500 and 1,000 locations. To secure that many screens so quickly -- at a time when exhibitors have already planned their summer schedules -- could be an enormous challenge.

2. All the theaters have to do

is get rid of "White Chicks" and a couple other total waste of film movies to make a slot for Farenheight911. Which do you think will make them more money?

heh heh I'm not sure when "White Chicks" is being released, but it would work for me!

3. Even so, /White Chicks/ might last three weeks (the last being slim)...
...while I can see Farenheit 9/11 being out right up to the point it's released on DVD (in October I think).

4. How are movies "distributed" these days?
Do they still use film or do they have some digital medium?

6. film or digital?

I know some theaters use digital. When I was living in Orlando they made a big deal out of pointing out what theaters used digital. I'm guessing here, but at the present time I think most theaters still use film, but that it's changing and eventually most might use digital.

I'm a film fan. I can't stand the choppiness of digital in the action sequences. The bad thing about film, though, is that it can get scratchy. Seriously, I hope they never stop using film completely. I don't always want things to look that "real". :)
