The Prez said that he resigned, and Tenet himself gave his resignation speech. W can't use this to his advantage, not in my opinion. (I'm not saying that he wasn't fired, I would bet that his resignation was indeed requested. But the resignation story is already out there.)

because he hired them! Indeed, I think the reason why Bush didn't "officially" fire Tenet is out of fear that it would look like he should have percieved Tenent's "incompetence" earlier. Then again, maybe Bush DID perceive it--unless he developed his Office Of Special Plans for "personal" reasons of his own (like putting Poppy in charge). Not that it did any good--OSP's intelligence turned out to be just as faulty!

P.S. Is it true that Bush Sr. promised to "fire congress" if he were re-elected?

Who is "they"? When dirty work needs doing, who does it?... the SPOOKS. It's the spooks that organize and carry out the "disappearings" and "accidents"... Tenet is/was Head Spook. There is no "disappearance", "accident" or other assorted atrocities so nasty that it would make all our toes curl (and we wouldn't even begin to imagine) that the Head Spook isn't aware of. This is one dude that BushCo should never have assumed was their loyal serf to be ground beneath their wingtips. There is no higher power then a country's spooks... that's why you don't piss them off. I assumed there would be major backlash from Tenet when they flicked the first public booger at him.

As for Tenet's comment about the "well-being" of his family... me thinks that has more to do with him staying out of prison (Cut bait and cut a deal, and get a Stay Out of Jail Free card).
