RNC chairman Ed Gillespie on Hannity & Colmes: Soros, Hitler, Bush, Gore

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,121686,00.html

When Colmes asked Gillespe why Bush needed a private attorney to "advise" him on the Plame scandal:

"GILLESPIE: I'm not familiar enough to comment on it. I know this. I know what the president has said, which is he has directed everyone in his administration to cooperate and make sure that if there is anyone who knows how -- and if anyone knowingly put out the name of this agent, they need to come forward."

Hannity's exchange with Gillespe on Soros, Bush and Hitler...

"SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: I want to go back to the Soros question here for just a second here. I mean, here is a guy that has called for regime change in the United States. He's a billionaire who's pledged to -- if he has to spend every cent he has. He's aligned himself and is funding this group MoveOn.org, that even ran ads that liken the president to Adolph Hitler.

GILLESPIE: He's putting money in a 527. We fought this, unlike the old rock singer Bobby Fuller. I fought the law, and the law won. We fought it in the Supreme Court. We fought it in the Federal Election Commission. They say that it's legal. And now you see conservative-minded groups starting to do the same thing, but nobody is going to put $15 million in the way he's put it into MoveOn.org."

...and finally, his words of wisdom on the "very bitter" Al Gore"

"GILLESPIE: Sure. I think that he is a very bitter person, and, you know, anger is not an agenda, and I think the Democrats are going to find this as we move forward in this campaign. The American people want to know what are you for you, and for the former vice president to say that the current president betrayed our country, for Nancy Pelosi, the leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives to say the president is incompetent, for his..."

1. the moveOn ads
He's aligned himself and is funding this group MoveOn.org, that even ran ads that liken the president to Adolph Hitler.

I've heard this talking point a few times now. But MoveOn.org didn't run any ads comparing Bush to Hitler. They were submitted to the contest, but they never appeared on TV. Right?

More lies.

12. I actually saw the ads, part of contest, before they were pulled
you could rate the ads that were submitted by people to a contest, that's how I saw the ads. I think they expected something like a few hundred people to create these 30 second ads, but they got maybe 1,000 entries. The two Nazi ads were memorable, that's for sure, but MoveOn quickly deleted them once they heard people's comments.

I don't know if having them on their website for a few days, buried in 1,000 other ads constitutes "running" them, but these people are desparate for any straw to grab onto right now.

17. I've had it with Hannity and his lies
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 01:01 PM by rumguy
I honestly think that if he was hanging off a cliff I wouldn't help him, I'd just let him die.

The world would be better off without Hannity. Yeah, I'd let him die. I wouldn't do anything to facilitate it. I'd just let the world get rid of his vile presence.

4. Fifteen Millions In A Chunk, Sir
Is a useful thing to have.

It is true that broadly based fund raising from numerous small doners can greatly diminish the influence large ones can expect, and that is a good thing.

5. money in politics is a big problem
the fact that a single wealthy person can have so much influence is a huge problem.

But demonizing one person isn't the answer. It's bigger than just Soros.

9. Certainly He Can, Sir
You do not even quite rise to the nominal status of gad-fly here....

Taking advantage of factions in the capitalist class is the only sound strategy for the left at this time, lacking as it does either mass support or armed force....

13. And hes' doing an awfully poor job
Alerter_ has been knocking Soros for the last two days, but despite his repeated warnings about Soros, and the close eye he has been keeping on Soros, I've yet to see a post of his that mentions something Soros has done that calls his intentions into question. So far, the worst fact about Soros that Alerter_ has posted is that Soros has engaged in "arbitrage", though I have no idea why Alerter_ would put that in quotes, as arbitrage is a legitimate business.

20. Another poor job filled with innuendo
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 12:56 PM by sangha
"Ask Association of Southeast Asian Nations if Soros is "legitimate""

Since you imply that you know of something bad that Soros did in relation to ASEAN, why don't you tell us what it was, instead of accusing Soros with innuendo by implying that he did something wrong but not telling us what it is?

If Soros is SO bad that it justifies your several threads about him, then certainly you could explain just ONE of his many evil deeds.

23. Actually, Sir
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 01:02 PM by The Magistrate
Malaysia weathered the crisis rather well, its Prime Minister having the sense to have placed controls on investment that dampened the volatility of capital flight.

You might with greater force ask whether the corrupted crony capitalism of Indonesia ought to be viewed as legitimate. What Mr. Soros does is to profit from pointing up the nonsense preached by "free-marketeers" concerning global investing, and the flaws of a system that encourages investors to believe they may enjoy the proceeds of a risk premium without actually running any risk of losing their capital. One of the basic presumptions of classical economic theory, that has largely gone by the boards today, is that an investor should keep careful track of invested capital, so that it is not put at undue risk, and that this can be best done with investments close to home. In the great sloshings of global capital today, people forget this entirely, and invest capital in enterprises they cannot conceivably monitor, in locales they are wholly ignorant of, and the result really ought to be disaster....

16. You do have an agenda don't you?
Every single post on Soros of yours is very negative. Any person that is willing to help bring down this travesty on America is welcome. Why are you so opposed to his help? He has not tried to "take over" the Democratic party. I don't even think he is a registered Democrat. What is your agenda?

7. The first person to compare Bush to Hitler was Karl Rove.
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 10:47 AM by snippy
Of course it was in an admiring and complimentary way.

Drudge excerpting from Woodward's book Bush At War:

ROVE THOUGHT POST-9/11 WORLD SERIES GAME LIKE NAZI RALLY

"The president emerged wearing a New York Fire Department windbreaker. He raised his arm and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd on the third base side of the field. Probably 15,000 fans threw their arms in the air imitating the motion.

He then threw a strike from the rubber, and the stadium erupted. Watching from owner George Steinbrenner’s box, Karl Rove thought, It’s like being at a Nazi rally." (p. 277)
