Rumsfeld on CNN: The war is going bad because of the MEDIA.
Rumsfeld just appeared on CNN, in an interview, and opined that this is the first war we've fought that exists in a 24-hour-news-bubble, as he put it.

He went on to say that we're celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Normandy Invasion this week, and he asked Americans to imagine conducting that invasion with today's media. He says the media would have been blaming Eisenhower, second-guessing him, and calling him back to Washington for congressional hearings. He was terribly annoyed while speaking, practically screaming.

Isn't it too cute the way this Administration keeps trying to compare their horrid Iraq war with WWII?

His final words: "When you want to do something good, someone out there in the 'attack machine' isn't going to like it. So you have two choices, you can go do nothing, or you can go do good and live with the fact that someone isn't going to like it."

Rumsfeld better be next after Tenet...

during the run-up to the "war" and the fabuluous sequel "shock and awwe".

It was simply disgusting the way every single network had it's multi-million dollar hollywood production REGULARLY SCHEDULED hype for bushco's illegal invasion.

But you didn't hear a peep from anyone - how could they when "100% of the country supported bunkerboy" they kept screaming! Someone must've overlooked ME!

And lastly, of course "the media" weren't supportive of the NAZI's during WWII - they had a brain then! He is terribly confused about which "role" the US is forced to play this time around. HINT: It sure as hell ain't the "allies"!

6. The Mental Process, Ma'am, Is Fascinating
If the people of the United States did not know how bad things are going, everything would be going well....

The enemy in Iraq, of course, would know how things stood, and the people of Iraq, being subject to the conditions of war in their country, would know, and the U.S. armed forces, actively fighting, would know as well.

But as long as the people of the United States are not well informed, everything would be golng fine....

... for the evil invaders, and they would be able to cling to power, which is all that they desire.

Some days are more upsetting than others.

If the media weren't in Rome, would the President's visit be going well?

13. And the real tragedy of the US torture of Iraqis was the pictures
I remember him saying that - he was dismayed at the fact that the pictures and video existed.

Every major player in this criminal regime turns my stomach when I see what they've done and are doing (and plan to do) to my country and the rest of the world, but there's something extra-revolting about this jerk.

"We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat."

14. Rumsfeld forgets Pearl Harbor
The majority of the people in the U.S. were against our getting in World War II. Even though Roosevelt knew what was at stake, he did not go to war against the people's wishes as Bush did in Iraq. The U.S. only entered World War II after Pearl Harbor was so dramatically attacked.

15. his entire premise is bullshit

The FIRST Gulf War was conducted under nearly precisely the same 24-hour media intensity.

You didn't hear Cheney complaining then: LOTS of video success stories ... "there goes the luckiest man in Iraq" as the bridge is seen pulverizing from high above.

The difference is that we don't seem to be containing the threat this time around.

Rummy's Rules: cover the ones we win overwhelmingly, but cut us a break if we don't have a handle on things.

his kid? Imagine growing up under somebody whose opinion is the only right opinion? Who doesn't countinence disagreement? Very sad for anyone unlucky enough to be around him. BUT, he should be thanking God for George Tenent's resignation because it seems to me that as incompetent as the CIA is, it was the only agency worried about ElQ. It seems that I read somewhere that the CIA's concerns were dismissed by the DoD. Rummy should be worried because there are alot of people who think that Tenent was a decent guy...honest...meant well...I think the knives might be coming out for the guy who really should be paying for 911 (assuming we can't get Bush, that is).

44. IMHO we did win
We got our troops home and the Vietnamese people are doing well and actually like us (one of the very few countries that do)and want us to visit with them and do business. To me that is a win. Compare it to Korea. We are still on the verge with that country. The country is divided and contentious and unhappy with Americans.

No tax cuts for the rich. Raise them, through the roof.

Bring back the draft, with no exceptions for anyone.

Ration food, gasoline, tin, aluminum, rubber and steel.

Demand that all factories making consumer goods shut down operations and convert into defense plants.

Demand that the media quit it with the show trial stories of Michael, Mark, Martha and Kobe.

Otherwise I don't want to hear it.

40. Well, Donny boy, this is what happens when you repeatedly lie
to the entire world. You get caught and every one of your sneaky, dishonest, corrupt little schemes gets put under a microscope.

Too bad for you that the media caught you lying about WMD and found out that you knew Iraqis were being tortured and did nothing about it. Gosh, if no one found out, the tortures would still be going on.

Here's a clue for you: Most of us are not sociopathic and do not consider lying, cheating, stealing, torturing and killing good things.
Most of us want to prevent you from doing these things. Your whole concept of covert governing is corrupt, immoral and undemocratic.

You did some really shitty things and you got caught. We're on to you, and so is the media.

You and your neocon buddies should resign immediately before you are further disgraced.

The whole world is watching.

Rumsfeld knew about the torture of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib. So did the US governor in Iraq, Paul Bremer. Even the British Ministry of Defence knew. Can we really believe that Bush and Blair didn’t?
By Diplomatic Editor Trevor Royle and Westminster Editor James Cusick

It was a desperate attempt to shield his boss from the devastating fallout from the abuses at the Abu Ghraib prison. “Let me be clear,” defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Friday. “I failed to recognise how important it was to elevate a matter of such gravity to the highest levels, including the President and the members of Congress.
“I wish we had known more sooner and been able to tell you more sooner, but we didn’t.”

But the question of who knew what – and when – is far more complicated and potentially far more damaging than Rumsfeld’s version of events suggests.
