Bush Shows up at his Pope Meeting Late
There's respect. Keep the freaking Pope waiting!

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040604/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_running_late_1
President Bush (news - web sites) arrived 15 minutes late for his meeting with Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II — unusual for a president who makes no secret of his impatience when others keep him waiting.

It was a rare breach of protocol in Vatican (news - web sites) City, too, and raised eyebrows in the papal delegation.

snip

Protesters in the city were yelling "George Bush, terrorist," yet the president was insulated from the anti-war demonstrations, tucked safely away in plush digs behind high stone walls and razor wire.

"George Bush, terrorist," . . . tucked . . . away . . . behind high stone walls and razor wire.

A guy can dream.

6. Perhaps the Pope should have refused to see him
Being late was Bush's power play. He's shameless and disgusting and an embarassment to America, imo.

8. Power play -- that's what I thought, too
It's Shrub punishing the Pope for speaking out against the war.

You don't just show up late for the Pope. This was done on purpose as a form of disrespect in retribution.

12. The pope is a cult leader...
...according to my friends fundy mother. And apparently this is a commonly held fundy belief. Catholicism is a cult ('cuz they have candles, incense, have strict rituals, etc) in their eyes, so why would Dumbya show respect to a cult leader?

9. Crikey
I mean the pope could go at any minute now, and Bush keeps him waiting? Every second is valuable to someone who's clock is ticking.

15. Wasn't italy on Hitler's side most of WWII? (and has a fascist now)
Someone splain this to me:

"Two days before commemorating the 40th anniversary of the D-Day invasion in Normandy, Bush quietly paid tribute to Italian victims of World War II. "

17. The Pope and Bush
The Pope and Bush met for a joint, public address to the world. I could hardly understand a word he said. I had trouble understanding the Pope, too.
