Republicans don't consider non-whites as "real" voters

Don't know why I haven't thought of this before.

Here at TPM we've repeatedly noted the tendency for Republicans (and also non-Republicans) to argue that non-white voters somehow aren't quite real voters. The point is often framed as noting how up-the-creek Democrats would be without black voters.

True, of course. But what's the point exactly? Presumably any political party would put at something of a disadvantage if one of their major constituencies was suddenly struck from the rolls.

As I said when we last discussed this, I don't like making too much of this. I think the people who say such things haven't quite thought the point out. But their underlying assumption pretty clearly seems to be that blacks or Indians or whoever aren't quite real voters, and that Democrats who can't quite get the job done with ordinary white voters have to resort to them as a sort of electoral padding.

The week after the 2000 election--acting as if Bush was already the president-elect--he noted that the race really wasn't all that close because if you just take away all the black votes Bush won 55% of the vote. That prompted me to crunch the numbers and find that if you take away all the white men Gore won 56%-%40.

That Democrats can read the writing on the wall and realize that the "white vote's" share of the electorate as a whole is getting smaller with each successive census.

I'm glad the wingnuts keep focusing their attention on locking up the angry white male vote, because it means that within a generation or two, they will have made themselves a permanent minority party.

It's what happened to the GOP in California.

No options available for lawyer, doctor, stock broker etc.

Took me fifteen years of listening to my in-laws before it dawned on me that there never will any compromise for Whites. They expect Hispanics and Blacks to drop every hint of their culture and drop Affirmative Action and allow Whites to continue to have control of this country. That's it in a nutshell.

13. So many pundits

and GOP operatives mention that the GOP has strong support from white males. It's subtle, but the implication is those votes matter more. For fundraising having white males support you is great but they still have only one vote. The Dems will win once again by gaining majorities with women, huge turnout with African-Americans, and getting a majority of latino/as.
