I just watched the movie "Dave".....WOW!
Kevin Kline is a stand-in for the president, but the advisors are running the show......I kept comparing this movie with real life! In the movie Dave stands up to the nasty advisor and ends up being a good guy and doing the right thing. I kind of wish this movie was "real life"!

1. "Dave" is a great movie
Shrub would never do what Dave did. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, shrub has about as much intellegence as the guy they are keeping in the room down below.

4. after the events of the last few years
Dave seems so much more plausible. i thought it could never happen. now, with press whores, it is possible.

8. Check out Pleasantville
If you liked Dave and Seabiscuit.

Pleasantville is probably the best out of all of Gary Ross' movies.

9. Somebody should do an evil Dave.
You know. The lookalike they pick for the president would be really dumb, not just naive. And instead of having a heart of gold, the presidential stand-in would be a first class a**hole. The advisers would still run things, and would stay incompetent, Machiavellian jerks just like in Dave.

That would be an interesting movie.

11. I think Mitchell's character was based on Bush's dad
in particular the Yale athletic gear, and the snobbery!

I love that movie. When Bush was selected, I suddenly remembered the part from "Dave" where the little kid sees Dave doing his presidential impersonation gig at a car dealership, and asks, "Mommy, is that the real president?" And she responds, "God, I hope not."

Of the Bush impersonators today, two of the ones I've heard of are Republican. Brent Mendenhall, of Missouri, appears to be a moderate -- and a darned sight more useful than Bush, since he knows how to operate heavy earthmoving equipment.

Steve Bridges (who appears as "Bush" on Leno's show) does not actually look like George W. -- that's all prosthetic makeup. Apparently he's a fundamentalist Christian who has been trying to convert people at colleges, etc. -- I hope he is not doing this "in character", because that would really mess up the church/state thing.

http://www.premierespeakers.com/1189/index.cfm (what he looks like without the makeup)
Bridges is better at the voice than Mendenhall is (more professional training) and the gag where he pulls out the pretzel is pretty funny, but he still hasn't gotten Bush's weird moves down yet. (For example, the way he snickers to himself just before he says something he thinks is funny, or the squint/hunch he does when he's being defensive.)

12. I remember when "Dave" was in theaters, there was a lot of tittering
about this President named Bill who fooled around with a secretary. Gee, who could THAT be referring to? But if you pay attention, Bill Mitchell in the movie is a repuke. He's a Yale snob totally controlled by an evil Karl Rove doppelganger. He's referred to as a 'zombie' by the pundits on TV, and he wants to shut down homeless shelters and a comprehensive jobs program and then put the blame on his cronies. Now, who does THAT sound like?

"Dave" is a great movie. I've got it on video.

15. I always laugh, when Stone expresses suspicion ...
... that there's some kind of conspiracy about Mitchell!
