Arianna to give press conference tomorrow attacking Arh-nuld
Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 03:41 PM by CatWoman
and his Enron connections:

-snip-
Arianna Huffington called this morning to say that -- inspired by Monday's item in this space -- she will hold a press conference tomorrow outside the Beverly Hills Hotel. She'll be talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger's secret meeting at the hotel with Kenneth Lay in May 2001 during the California "energy crisis."

-snip-

She also forwarded a draft of her attack on Arnold's pals in the Bush administration for "declaring war" on California. Although it is still in draft form, I doubt she'll mind if I preview a few grafs:

"Let's start with the energy crisis: the White House repeatedly rejected the state's pleas for help during the crisis, preferring to side with their big buck backers in the energy industry -- especially Enron's 'Kenny Boy' Lay. Dick Cheney even went so far as to blame California for causing its own problems -- when, as we now know, it was actually crooked energy companies that were manufacturing the crisis and costing us billions ...

-snip-

"And it wasn't Gray Davis who held secret meetings with Enron executives. Or who appointed energy company-friendly members to the FERC -- members who looked the other way while Enron and the other energy swindlers fleeced California, who refused to impose wholesale energy price caps that would have saved California taxpayers from picking up the tab for the thievery, and who forced California to honor $12 billion in long-term energy contracts -- even after it was proven that the corporate energy crooks had scammed the system. No, that wasn't Davis -- it was Dick Cheney and George Bush."

1. I don't trust her BUT
she's certainly doing things that the Dems should be doing. Come on, this is something that can knock Ah-nuld and the Nazis's down--it amazes me they are so bold to think they can get away with it, what with Pete Wilson--who created the mess in the first place--running Ah-nuld's campaign.

Anyway, it makes me wanna bang my head against a wall that the Dems aren't making hay over this!

19. Arianna is saying what the spinless whimp fucking Democrats have
been so afraid to say...she is turning out to be the Democrats and Davis's best weapon.

The foreign born Arianna, may be the only effective weapon the Democrats have against the foreign born musclehead, Arnold.

6. Do you think it's a coincidence
that those with little chance of winning are the ones who are the most strident in their criticisms?

9. I don't know about Arianna
But I will agree that she is being very useful in getting the information on the Enron scam in California out to people. I don't think Arianna really wants to be Governor, but I do think she wants a platform to use to get her views across.

If she can expose this administration complicity then all the better.

13. Go, Arianna, Go!!!
Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 04:02 PM by JasonBerry
How can anyone not trust her now? Reading any one of her books (especially Pigs At The Trough) makes it crystal clear that Arianna is a true-blue progressive!

I wish Camejo would drop out and support her. Does anyone know if that is still the plan? I had heard Camejo would run to attract new Green supporters but drop out toward the end and endorse Arianna. Anybody up on this? Is that all crazy out west or WHAT???

edit to add punctuation.

14. Sadly, I'm afraid that that asshole opportunistator will win...
So if Arianna can get in a few national shots at smirk, I say go for it.

If Davis can be removed for Bush's fuck-ups, we have a clear case to remove Bush for Bush's fuck-ups.

32. Exactly
As I gaze into my crystal ball, I see one of the following events occuring tomorrow to obscure the Huffington press conference:

1) a Kobe Bryant press conference where he announces he's bought his wife an island in Tahiti to express his remorse

2) Nancy Grace leaves the confines of the CNN studios and travels to the Scott Petersen trial to stand outside his holding cell and yell "Guilty! Guilty" all day

3) An injured private is rescued from an Iraqi hospital where she has been held prisoner...oh wait, that's been done

4) Liberia. Invasion. Operation Liberate to Obsfucate, Part II commences

5) George Bush holds another "impromptu" press conference to announce he's changing his nickname for David Gregory from "Stretch" to "Greggers"

make the unqualified egomaniac Arnold look very silly (on nation TV)

Even the small amount it might help..it will only help Davis and the Democrats.

21. I love Arianna.
She is a good friend of mine. She is saying many
things about me that as a good fellow I have to admit
is sadly true. Also her 4 or 5 percent of the vote will
put me over the top as Governor of California. As reward
I will make her Secratary of Truth or something. If only my
good friend Ralph Nader could have come into the election
also. Well, you can not have everything. The thing to keep
in your mind is that there is no difference between me and
my good friend Cruz Bustamante, so you might as well vote
for me or Arianna or my good friend Larry Flynt and have
California go down the tubes quicker so that things will
get better in a few hundred years or something.

23. Is Arianna Huffington telling her supporters to vote against the recall?
She certainly seems to be making the argument that Davis is getting a bum rap. If she really believes that, then she should be telling people to vote no on the recall.

34. First, I did read the article
and second, the fact she has a problem with Bustamente hardly explains why she would support the recall of Davis. I've heard her say that the recall is a Republican power grab, and now she's arguing that Bush and not Davis is to blame for California's energy and economic woes. If she really believes that, then why wouldn't she tell her supporters to vote for her, but ALSO to vote against the recall?

35. FERC purge was one of the biggest non-stories
I never really understood what the big deal was about "Travelgate". My understanding was that the Clinton's fired some people from a cushy job and wanted to replace them with their own people. So what, that happens all the time. But when Bush purged the FERC and replaced the members with all pro-energy individuals, there was no coverage of the story. On the surface, they are the same actions, but while the positions in the White House travel office were fairly innocuous appointments, the FERC is responsible for enforcing and deciding public policy. That should have been a much bigger story that "Travelgate", but no one ever covered it. I am so glad that Arianna is going to talk about this. Maybe there is an upside to Arnold running. Anyone who decides to attack Arnold can be guaranteed to get coverage. This is the best way to get the media to cover someone who would otherwise be ignored by the media if they actually wanted to discuss policy issues.
