Just came from my local Borders & Clinton's popularity is just amazing!
Okay,I was at Borders last night with some friends. We left about a half hour before they closed. This morning I went in for my morning paper & noticed this HUGE sign of Bill Clinton's new book.I'd say it was the size of a one sheet movie poster (27x41)Okay,it was NOT there last night when I was there so it was either put up last night or this morning.I walked in & went to the information desk & asked if I could put my name on the poster(I really wanted it)The girl behins the counter laughed, looked over my shoulder & shouted the guy at the end of the counter that "I was another".

I gave her a starnge look & she explained to me that they put that poster up last night righ before closing & 11 people wanted the poster. This morning, I was the 4th so far.Not to mention there were about 8 or 9 employees who wanted it.The manager said they usually get several in,but not for this one.He said the demand so far for this book in just incredible.Apparently a rumor was started that bookstores were only getting so many & some chains are afraid of selling it.Because of this Borders has had more advanced orders on this than most can remember.

The mamanger said on Monday the DM (district Manager)was coming in & one the things to be discussed was the set up for the Clinton book. The manager wants two tables at the front of the store & one in the back.He said the last time they had such a huge display was for the Harry potter book last summer.Anyway, this cashier told me this morning that the email they got this week said this is gonna be the biggest selling book of the year & Borders is expecting it to sell more than Harry Potter.WOW!

3. All Right!
I am so glad to see Clinton coming back - and with his head held high. I just wish he was the one who had been here to handle 9/11 and the aftermath. I think our world would have been a much better place than it is today.

2. People's thirst for good leadership is massive.
Especially after three years of treasonous ineptitude at the top.

10. I better go to Borders today
and order a copy. I can hardly wait to read his book.

Can you imagine, in two or three years, Bush coming out with a book?

Well maybe a children's book, he some experience in that genre.

11. Go to your independent bookstore instead.
I was an independent bookseller for nearly a decade.

The big chains work special deals with publishers, and the playing field becomes quite a bit not-level.

Indie booksellers put money back in the community, support fledgling authors, support diversity in ideas, and make local decisions based on what local readers want to see in their bookstore.

Big booksellers support uniformity, take money and send it god knows where, and work together with publishers to the point that some of the biggies actual influence books' contents and display before they are even published.

Support democracy of ideas. Find an independent bookstore in your community, and funnel some of your book purchases in their direction.

Thank you!

13. frequent both - read more books!
I agree, I like independent bookstores, but I also worked for borders for almost ten years and it is a really well run company. I started with people who ended up being vp's, buyers, hr specialists etc. I don't like big chains, but seeing this one from the inside will always make me think fondly of it.

14. I would love to shop at an independent book store
but I live in the suburban sprawl of Phoenix where corporate retail is pretty much the only choice.
