Dean Supporters Attack Kerry's Blog
Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 04:54 PM by Bombtrack
http://www2.bostonherald.com/news/national/pres08132003.htm

Following its weekend launch, Sen. John Kerry's weblog, "patterned after" Howard Dean's "hugely successful" weblog, "was soon invaded by swarms of taunting Dean supporters, turning cyberspace into the latest Kerry-Dean rift," the Boston Herald reports:

<Snip>

``Kerry a real Democrat???!!!'' taunted one Dean supporter with ``Sam'' as an online name. ``That's a laugh.''

<snip>

``The Dean trolls have actually fired up Kerry supporters, and increased their energy and excitement to organize for John Kerry,'' said Kerry spokeswoman Kelley Benander.
------------------------------------------------------

and they've fired up other candidates supporters as well. Although, he's my second or third choice, I respect Kerry and his camp, and when serious candidates start dropping out, there supporters aren't going to switch to Dean

4. theres a huge thread on this in politics and campaigns
and I may add that Joe Trippi even addressed it in an e-mail to Dean supporters. And by the way, we had a poll of who Dean supporters would go to if he dropped out a couple of days ago on this site and over 100 responded and 40% would go to Kerry--believe it or not, alot of Dean people like Kerry. Those who disrupt or go to other peoples blogs are relatively few.

5. Boston Herald is a Repug rag.
They are there to cause trouble. Don't believe their spin for or against any Dem candidate. Don't believe their polls. They are the Boston version of the NY Post.

7. I know that they lean to the right
but I really doubt that they just made up this entire story, and the things that his supporters said.

and whatever Joe Trippi said, it's just another example of the kind of dem that supports Dean by and large

I'm sure you had to donate money to the Dean Campaign and show off your decoder ring before you could claim you were a dean supporter as you bashed Kerry on his site. Please. This could be anyone trying to disrupt the dems selection of a presidential candidate by taking us off the issues we face and how we are planning to deal with them.

Just because a freeper comes here and claims they are liberal, doesn't mean that they are. Just because a few bad eggs went to Kerry's site and claimed they were Dean supporters, doesn't mean that they are.

Lastly, with over 400,000 people signed up as dean supporters, I doubt that the actions of, say, a mere hundred people could be said to characterize all dean supporters, just as the actions of say, 100 du posters couldn't be said to characterize over 30,000 duers.

Try again.

22. Oh, I'm sure the story has SOME truth...
but, the way it will get spun is meant to hurt the Dems in general. Almost any story they do will prick at Kerry or Dean with the intent of them destroying each other. They LOATHE Kerry at the Herald. He beat their boy Weld in 96.

... but how many bad actors does it take to disrupt a board? 3? 5? If the implication is that Dean supporters are by and large like that, then please give me a effing break.

What a nasty thing to do - making a blanket statement trashing Dean supporters like that. You should be ashamed of yourself.

AS IF Dean's blog doesn't get nasty Kerry supporters - the Dean web team just happens to be on their toes and don't let it hang out there for all to see.

The fact that this is even a story is a joke. If Kerry actually gave a shit about his blog they would be monitoring it and removing the flames. The thing is they dont really have a clue. They are just trying to copy what they have seen work for Dean without really understanding what they are doing. Much like the chalenge to send W back to texas, wich for days you had to search for.

Wich all lays at the feet of why i dont support kerry. He doesnt seem to lead on anything. He does seem to recognize a good idea when he sees one and get behind it. I just dont see much in the way of real leadership from him. He makes a great senator as he usually lands on the right side of an issue, but saying me too doesnt make you a leader.

8. I really doubt Dean or Kerry are making these decisions
perhaps Dean to some extent, but I'm sure Kerry has to do his job as a senator

and I don't know how Dean seems to lead on anything, except being devisive and inflammatory.

13. It's not like Dean has people that are geniouses
all they did was latch on to the pre-existing, active, anti-war movement, because they knew how easily manipulatable they would be.

23. Maybe they latched on b/c they agree with much of the platform
My IQ was tested at borderline genious level. I agree with a lot of what Dean says, including much of his statement about tax breaks from the govt. The measly 400 bucks I got in the mail will cost me much more in the long-run due to taxes shifting to the states and the increase in the federal deficit.

I'd be perfectly happy with a combined Biden/Dean ticket. I don't agree with Biden's decision to go to war, but he did stress that Congress was 'duped' along with the rest of the US on the evidence and he's the only one talking about how to get us out of the Iraq quagmire and repair the horrendous damage done to our foreign policy by Bush et al.

And yes, I'd still vote for Kerry if he were to get the nomination. Any of these three would be better than the fool currently have in the Oval Office.

Please think before you generalize. Or, are you really a freeper?

and if you think if he was that he would chose Dean as a running-mate, well then your obviously no political genious either

because Delaware and Vermont are really the kind of states that dems need to reach out to?

a plagarizer and a liar, good choice for our post-monica-gate image

10. Garbage

I am sure you've been paying more attention to Dean laying in his hammock over the past few years...While Kerry HAS been leading in the Senate doing his damnest fighting for nearly all important Democratic causes.

His service in the Senate earns him the right to run for the White House.

You Dean jokers can't just support Dean, you have to dump on Kerry. Because the Dean supporters have so annoyed me I am doing everything I can to discredit Dean and IF (big IF) Dean wins the nomination I WILL NOT vote for him and will urge others as well.

Saying Kerry doesn't have an original thought shows how freaking ingnorant you are. I have watched him in the Senate for the past 10 years (didn't care in the 1980s) and he has been outstanding...steadfast and a warrior for our causes.

blanket statements are really unfair. Many of us have nothing to do with this kind of activity. I would NEVER judge Kerry or his supporters by the actions of a few.

18. You can judge Dean by judging Dean
no other candidate has lied the way he has(whether about his social security statements, or about saying Edwards voted for tax cuts that he didn't)

no other candidate has had to apoligize to the other candidates for saying stupid things repeatedly

no other candidate proclaims who is and who isn't(all be it in code-talk) a real democrat for his own political game

no other serious candidate is as unelectable as he is, and cares less about the dem party defeating Bush, and no candidate seems to care more about there own ego

LMAO...

Dean= Against the death penalty WITH some exceptions

Dean= Against all forms of federal gun laws, but would NOT remove ANY of the existing ones.

LMAO...Dean is a fraud. He will be forgotten by early Spring.

17. to paraphrase George Carlin, Fuck Howard, Howard sucks
Dean is the biggest hypocrite in popular politics there is.

A self-proclaimed straight-talker who uses more code-words and inuendo than anyone

and who seems to have been annointed with the wisdom to declare who is and who isn't a "real" democrat, and it seems that anyone who doesn't agree with him is not a real democrat

a self-proclaimed centrist, which would make Dick Gephardt and John Kerry conservatives by his implied logic

he's the angry, pessimistic candidate, probably because when he tries to smile he makes Dick Cheney look genuine

16. the "Kerry copied Dean" line showed up here at DU
it sounded fake, like something designed to capitalize on the Dean vs. Kerry feud.

I think actual Dean supporters don't care about stupid crap like that, and they probably wouldn't do the juvenile stuff this article describes.

19. Kerry supporters- your blog needs you! (Dean supporter on Freeper attack)
The Kerry folks have put up a great site with a blog. Unfortunately, their blog is being polluted by trolls, mostly posing as Dean supporters. It's gotten really ugly, and it appears that the Kerry campaign can't manage to get it under control. If they don't deal with it soon, the blog will die, and it would be a terrible loss for them.

Dean supporters like myself have tried to explain what's happening, that these are trolls who have found a vulnerable new site where they can play on peoples emotions and whip up fights between Kerry and Dean people. Unfortunately, the scene is now so antagonistic, that any "help" from the Dean camp would be percieved as trolling. Some of us have been corresponding off blog with Kerry people who have posted on the Dean site about the problem.

If you spend time here on DU and you are a KERRY SUPPORTER ONLY, you've probably refined your BS detectors and can help them reign in this problem. If you're a moderator, and a KERRY SUPPORTER ONLY , your input would be really helpful. Help them understand that they need to ban IPs, delete posts, whatever it takes.

(Dean supporters and all others need to STAY OFF the blog. No posting of apologies, nothing, it's all pollution at this point.)

Hope they can pull it out of the mire.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=108&topic_id=18695

This is a thread on DU that was calling on Kerry supporters to go to the Kerry blog and fend off Freepers. The person did NOT want Dean supporters because it wasn't Dean supporters doing the trolling. Dean supporters were being *accused* of doing the trolling, but the Dean supporters on the Kerry blog were actually trying to fend off the freepers and explain to the Kerry folks what was going on.
