Someone please tell me what Bush did in France.
Everyone references it and no one says what it's about! Please tell.

1. Bush denies blame for rift with France
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/world/2610623

ROME -- President Bush accepts no blame for a bitter diplomatic rift with France, but he may finally offer French President Jacques Chirac a little Texas hospitality.

Bush, scheduled to meet with Chirac tonight in Paris, was asked in an interview with Paris Match magazine what went wrong with the U.S.-French alliance that was first forged during the American Revolutionary War.

"You need to talk to the French leadership," Bush responded tersely in the May 28 interview.

---snip---

The president also indicated Chirac might be asked to visit to his Crawford ranch, an invitation extended only to favored leaders.

On the other hand, the potential invitation was hinted out with minimal enthusiasm.

"If he wants to come and see some cows, he's welcome to come out there and see some cows," Bush said.

7. So, this boils down to one remark
"There is America and there is Texas".

You said yourself that the "earpiece" feed was an audio/video sync problem; and the "non-handshake" thread has lots of photos showing Bush and Chirac shaking hands.

So Bush was maybe saying he disagrees with Jefferson's original remark? Big deal. It doesn't look like any French news source thought this was worth reporting at all - a search on news.google.fr for "bush texas kennedy" gives nothing.
