For those of you not familiar with the sport/hobby of
Geocaching ... it's basically like a huge, worldwide treasure hunt, with over 100,000 items (caches) hidden in 200+ countries. To find a cache, all you need is a GPS, the clues, imagination, and perspiration.
I spent many hours over the last two weeks constructing a very elaborate mystery cache in downtown Eugene, requiring the searchers to scour a 36-block grid writing down the numbers on streetlight poles. Adding the numbers then gave the final coordinates (latitude/longitude) of the hidden cache.
Unfortunately, I chose a bench outside a Federal building to hide the small plastic container equipped with a magnet to stick to the underside of the bench.
Oops.
The last person to try and find it yesterday was detained by Federal security guard for 30 mins, made to show ID, and then they confiscated my freaking hidden cache :(
Oh well, glad we have a missile shield to protect us from those pesky geocachers.
