Reagan free post: VIOLENCE IS THE TRUE PORNOGRAPHY

I was reading a book review written by Jim Holt in an old New Yorker ("Punch Line: the history of jokes and those who collect them.", April 19 and 26 issue,p. 184) last night and it was talking about jokes through the ages, especially vulgar and "filthy" type jokes. One guy they mentioned was George Alexander Legman--a real character and collector/publisher of books about a lot of stuff: jokes, sex related subjects, etc.

Anyway, he went to France in the 40s because the censors went after him. He propounded a great concept, in my mind, in one of his books titled "Love and Death". This concept was that VIOLENCE IS THE TRUE PORNOGRAPHY. quoting the critique: "Why, he asked, should children be exposed to relentless depictions of violence but shielded from those of lovemaking? 'At least sex is normal,' he wrote. 'Is murder?'"

THIS IS A GOOD QUESTION TO ASK ALL THE WAR-MONGER RIGHTWINGERS AND to, some extent, humanity in general. WE GLORIFY WAR AND DEATH AND ARE INTIMIDATED, THREATENED, AND OFFENDED BY love and sex.

I have totally been saying this -- when I saw previews for "The Passion," I thought, WOW, a porn flick that the Jesus freaks can really latch onto, and feel all virtuous at the same time.

All the heaving, all the pink flesh and squirting, and moaning and grunting, and physical contact.

It is clearly about repressed sex. In fact, now they are doing some media research with MRI's and the brain images show that porn and violence both "light up" the same spot in the brain.

And now we know. Bush keeps Saddam's "pistol" in the "Lewinsky Room."

One (not honest to his wife) president used sex to validate his manhood. The other needed to kill thousands of people, poison the environment, ruin million of people's lives to achieve the same end.

10. My stepfather, a true liberal at heart

used to tell me and my brother that he'd rather us accidentally see two people making love than one person lopping another person's head off (those were his exact words).

His explanation? Same as this guy: one is natural, one, in his estimation, is not.

We were not allowed, under any circumstances, growing up in the 70s and 80s to view violence. That meant we didn't watch a lot of news on TV.

People naked, though? My parents didn't bat an eye.

That means as an adult, I know enough to suck in air and divert my eyes from violence, not human nudity or sexuality.

I enjoy them both, however not at the same time. I probably wouldnt enjoy violent porn, but normal porn is fine.
