Poll question: Are you satisfied with the Reagan coverage? Is there any whoring going on?
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 01:07 PM by Bleachers7
It's been almost 24 hours since Ronnie bit it. How do you feel about the media coverage so far?

Non-Poll question:
Is anyone channel whoring for the republicans?

1. CNN, CNBC, MSGOP, Faux are all whoring for the.....
old man.

Except for Brokow, it's sickening. They have all the right wing SOB's on to talk about how Reagan is so "Bush Like".

:puke:

Now that's rather clumsy of them, considering that he's dead...

4. I am becoming quite sick of it.
Only thing on TV is Reagan, Reagan, Reagan and more Reagan.

It would be ok if it were objective to the slightest extent. It isn't...

7. I've avoided tv
but NPR has been painful, they keep replaying a Neal Cohen segment on Reagan - two of my least favorite folks at once. :eyes:

8. Once I read online that Reagan died, I vowed to not watch cable news
until 2 days after the funeral. I figure that should spare me most of it.

9. Chose "Not sure" since "Not watching" wasn't an option
thus I have to say not sure - because haven't seen. Though i would be surprised if no overthetop mediawhoring was going on.

11. I am checking out of the news.
Not going to watch any of it for the next two weeks. I was so young when he was president. Never had a clue what cruel, selfish policies he promoted. The worst was the pandering to the bigots in his party and making them proud to use their "family values" as a cover for being racist a-holes.

37. I predict wonderful things happening from such resolve.
Our collective blood pressure will go down. Madison Avenue will not be able to sell us anything that we don't want, don't need, or can't use. Yes sir, someone should have thought of this Reagan dying thing, months ago.

though I guess that goes without saying...

10. LETTER TO CNN (by me)
Ronald Reagan began the neo-con movement and is responsible for the disastrous policies that led to the Iraq debacle. Iran Contra proof laid bare the immorality that inspired the lies used 20 years later to justify the illegal and immoral Iraq War.

Your uncritical Reagan Lovefest is disgusting. The man was loathed as much as he was loved. He started this 50/50 society that doesn't even talk to itself anymore! He started the use of 'talking points memo' by the Republcans, staying on message to basically con the media (that's you! CNN). Reagan started the "war on drugs" ... which is an unmitigated disaster.

Ronald Reagan: the oppressor of the the poor, traded with our enemies, supported dictators in Iraq, Honduras and "contras" killers in Nicaragua, cut programs for the mentally ill, veterans, and the most vulnerable to give millions in tax breaks to the ultra rich. The result has been the introduction of 19th century colonialism to the U.S. and the rise conspicuous consumption of the few in the face of ever larger poverty among the masses.

Any human death is sad, but the death of the Reagan "legacy" will be most welcome.

16. Talking
"He started this 50/50 society that doesn't even talk to itself anymore!"

I thought we were supposed to be talking to each other, not ourselves.

By the way, whose fault is it that we aren't communicating? Could it be that we really don't want to listen to each other?

23. nice letter! i'm sick of the reagan balllyhoo on tv.
i know the neo cons are desperate for anything to take the heat off of them, but jesus, this is overkill. it is a turnoff and i think the only people responding to it are the neo cons. the rest of us are watching arena football.

i'm waiting for nancy to rain on their parade. talk about making my day! ha ha ha ha. it will definitely put a grin on my face.

12. Tons of whoring
Anchors getting maudlin about the "death of our former president", emphasis on "our". See, it's not just the death of a former president, it's the death of America's president. I wanna puke out loud.

14. It's almost as if each network checked the focus groups...
...and were told 100 percent of America loved St. Ronnie. There hasn't been even a hint of anything negative. Even Iran-Contra is being turned into a positive. And I have yet to see one Democrat or opponent among the parade of reminiscing talking heads. Disgusting in its deceit.

30. Bill Clinton was interviewed, so was John Kerry
I am getting tired of the coverage, also; however, it's the constant deifying that's getting to me. As a former President, he is certainly due homage, but it's a little much. Actually, I have now tuned out; eagerly awaiting the return of news. I will watch the funeral, though.

15. There's not much on broadcast and I don't have cable.
It seems to me that the death of JFK Jr. touched the American people a lot more deeply than Reagan's death, but maybe that's just my perception.

25. NBC, CBS, and ABC know that ALL Americans are NOT....
mourning and that they want to see their favorite shows.

And yes, WE AMERICANS were more touched by the passing of JFK jr. than we ever will be by Reagan.

17. I don't want to see anything about
him so I have the tv off until the Soprano's tonight. That should be safe to watch! Knew this would happen, they treat him like a god and all I can say is at least it will be over with now instead of wondering if it would happen during the convention or nearer the election.

19. i tuned in briefly this morning to NPR news
it was brief cause it was whoring.

They spoke of the man, and his yrs as President.
Not even hint though as to the downside, the negative effects of Ronny on this country and others with his war against communism, war on Unions, Star Wars, trickle down economics, etc., etc.

Blah.

They conceeded that Star Wars wasn't a crazy idea after all. It must be a sensible proposal, we are supposed to think, because all these years later, the current Bush administration is pushing it.

34. Instead of watching my regular Sunday news
I knew that the regular stuff we watched on Sun morning would be Reagan non-stop. So instead, I watched BBC World special coverage of the 60th anniversary of D-Day ceremonies on PBS. Reagan was only a footnote scrolled at the bottom of the screen. It was really good.
