Myself, I take the best I can get, and so do most reasonable people. The Green Party has shown that it is beyond reason.

Must be the fog created by this recall. :shrug: I still love my Green buddies but this is the present not the past, my state and a whole shitload of appointments that control energy, labor rights (industrial relations is nearly ALL governor appointments)and the coastal commission. Please forgive me if I stand in a moment of silent prayer for Ralph to either campaign effectively or get the fuck out of the way so at least someone LEFT of center as we now have can survive.

I've stayed out of the recall threads because I haven't followed it that closely and don't feel entirely qualified to speak to the issue. I hope that things turn out for the best - I'd likely be voting "no" and "Bustamante" if I lived there.

That said, I've never had the luxury of living in a left coast refuge and I still refuse to buckle to conservative bullshit. My eyes are wide fucking open, so please spare me the "rose colored glasses" routine. You know you have my deep respect for the work that you do, but I've voted often enough for the lesser of two evils to have paid my dues and to be able to give full voice to criticism of my own party.

By voting for the lesser of two evils in this case, it really does keep the Devil himself from prospering in my state.

Right now I just fail to see how Nader can stand on his consumer advocacy while he is helping to recall a governor who said NO the screwing consumers on their electric bill by exposing the FERC the feds and going after energy companies with a vengeance.

It's nice he got seatbelts and corvairs handled. The electric bill and the water tap are the issues today and I fail to see how he is helping by neutering the team that has advocated for a remedy.

Good christ, at least you have a viable Green party to worry about! I get the luxury of a state Democratic party that put out a hit on it's own most liberal congressperson in 2002. I get the luxury of having voted for Zell Miller. Talk to Zell about coalitions.

Besides, it seems to me that Nader isn't your problem out west. The GOP initiated the recall, not the Greens.

25. As I have said 100 times today, Camejo ACTIVELY supported the

recall. He was out amongst the masses and was probably responsible for more than a few of those signatures. Much like Ralph finding common ground with Nordquist Camejo found common ground with ISSA.

Demonize Camejo and Nader to your heart's content. I'm not a Green, as you'll recall, and as I say, I'd likely be voting against the recall and for Bustamante if I lived in California.

None of this refutes the main points behind the Nader candidacy in 2000, though. Maybe it's something about living outside the promised lands of the west coast and New England that makes some of us a little more hungry for something resembling true change. It never seems very far from home to me.

Hell, what do I know? I'm probably some trust fund baby.

Not if I have to hear about everyone's wishes for a more liberal government when I live in a state with some of the most progressive Dem legislators who have stood up to corporate farm interests for the workers interests (such as farmworkers rights to strike against corporately owned farms). Yes there is collusion with business but one thing people DO need to consider in all of this and I am making NO APOLOGIES FOR REALITY is people need jobs.

You and I stand for nearly all of the same damn things.

More often than not we are on the same page.

But when Nader comes to my state...BTW a state that was one of the first to enact his reforms and catapult him to superstardom and begins helping Arnold Schwarzenegger to get elected by slamming Gray Davis for a ponzi energy scheme that was passed before he was even the fucking governor...I have a problem.

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- With the Democratic National Convention just two days away, political activist Arianna Huffington and an umbrella group of mostly left-leaning organizations are set to play host to another "Shadow Convention," a five-day event that organizers say will focus "on the issues that the parties won't touch."

As it did during the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia two weeks ago, the Los Angeles "Shadow Convention" will focus on three issues -- campaign finance overhaul, poverty and the "wealth gap" in America, as well as what organizers say is the failed war on drugs.

"Neither party has anything to say about this," Huffington said recently, arguing that the major party conventions have evolved into little more than "pre-programmed infomercials."

While the Philadelphia venue was miles away from the GOP convention site, its Los Angeles counterpart will be held within walking distance from the Democratic gathering at the Staples Center downtown.

Mixing parody with serious talk, the event is open to the public and will feature, among others: Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minnesota; the Rev. Jesse Jackson; authors Jonathan Kozol and William Greider; and comedians Al Franken and Bill Mahr.

Huffington, a conservative commentator, will kick off festivities Sunday night. Actor Warren Beatty, a proclaimed liberal who last year entertained the idea of mounting his own presidential bid, is expected to join her on stage Sunday night.

Opening night events will include previews of the convention themes by speakers including Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wisconin, Rep. Tom Campbell, R-California, and Dr. Cornell West, a Harvard professor and former campaign advisor to Bill Bradley, who unsuccessfully challenged Vice President Al Gore for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Comedian Bill Mahr, host of the television show "Politically Incorrect", will deliver a stand-up act, followed by a music performance by former "Public Enemy" rap star Chuck D. to wind down the festivities.

When asked about Nader's numerous followers the Democrat added: "The serious people left him in 2000, and he was left with people unable to reason as followers, with no sense of humor and filled with self-hatred who projected their inadequacies on others."

We tried to reach Ralph Nader for comment, but the 87 year old avoided our print reporter by body-slamming her with the excuse that "she was between me and a TV camera."
