Bill Kristol on cspan this morning is trying to ride Reagan's corpse
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 07:41 AM by DaveSZ
This morning neocon Bill Kristol on cspan is trying to ride Reagan's corpse to victory for his puppet W.

I expect more of this, and I think it's shameful to exploit a dead man in this way.

Do you think Reagan's death helps or hurts Bush?

1. Posting again: Bush is a George W. Republican not a Reagan repug.
In his interview with Brokaw for the D-Day celebration:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5146260 /

At the end of the interview, after all the usual platitudes:

Brokaw: “Thank you, Mr. President.”

Bush: “Tom.”

Brokaw: “You think of yourself as a Ronald Reagan Republican?”

Bush: “Think of myself as a George W. Republican, different era.”

A GEORGE W. REPUBLICAN???? HE IS NOT EVEN OUT OF OFFICE YET! HE IS NOT DEAD YET! HE HAS SCREWED UP!!! SO WHAT IS A GEORGE W. REPUBLICAN!!!!

2. Depends on the intelligence of the people
evaluating any similarities. I think it will hurt the idiot. He was toast before Reagan's death.

3. It Will Hurt The Shrub
By playing on the past and by trying to identify himself with a dead man.

Too many conservatives out there will see Dimbo trying to cash in on their revered icon and vote accordingly IMHO.

Others will see Chimpy following a failed domestic agenda to the grave.

He may get a sympathy bump in the polls, but the decline will continue especially if he continues his negative ad campaign into November.

5. I thought of that too

Reagan was such an imposing figure, and Smirk doesn't hold a candle to ol Raygun.

The comparison between the two is a stark one.

7. Possibly hurts Shrub
I think it will cause some R's to wake up (if they can) to at least see that Shrub is not a great communicator and that he is negative, while they remember Ronnie as a positive force.

American's re-elect positive people as President. That is a lesson I hope Shrub does not learn.

6. To borrow from Reagan who borrowed from Lloyd Benson
In my life I've met both Ronald Reagan and George Bush and George you ain't no Reagan. By the end of 87, Reagan had begun to tell aides that Star Wars was unworkable at the stage and he wouldn't promote an unworkable system. Reagan had friends in the world by the end of his term, that extended beyond Great Britain, Japan and Mongolia. George Bush pales in comparison (and I hated Reagan). To see Bush in Reagan's shadow, I think, will further turn-off old guard Republicans who like Reagan. I think it should be pointed out that some of the positions Reagan took, Bush opposes -- the extension of the Civil Rights Act, Bush has criticized several positions on military spending, international treaties and economic ideals that Reagan took. (Basically to shift blame away from himself)

8. Right
Kerry should continue with his positive ads, and perhaps pick a vp that also gives people hope in the same way that Reagan or Kennedy did.

9. Kristol's sidestep of Iran-Contra
was not particularly deft. We're all supposed to overlook subverting the constitution in order to aid rebels overthrowing an elected government...while arming future terrorists.
