50 year anniversary of Joe McCarthy "no decency" quote
This exchange from June 9, 1954 is worth commemorating. The ridiculous republican response to Nancy Pelosi's criticism of Bush is just one example of a new wave of this crap. The whole RW media machine is basically a McCarthyite system. I've heard Ann Coulter defend McCarthy explicitly.

http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/welch-mccarthy.html

McCarthy: Mr. Chairman, may I say that Mr. Welch talks about this being cruel and reckless. He was just baiting. He has been baiting Mr. Cohn here for hours, requesting that Mr. Cohn before sundown get out of any department of the government anyone who is serving the Communist cause. Now, I just give this man's record and I want to say, Mr.Welch, that it had been labeled long before he became a member, as early as 1944 --

Welch: Senator, may we not drop this? We know he belonged to the Lawyers' Guild. And Mr. Cohn nods his head at me. I did you, I think, no personal injury, Mr. Cohn?

Cohn: No, sir.

Welch: I meant to do you no personal injury.

Cohn: No, sir.

Welch: And if I did, I beg your pardon. Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator.

McCarthy: Let's, let's --

Welch: You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?

McCarthy: I know this hurts you, Mr. Welch.

Welch: I'll say it hurts!

McCarthy: Mr. Chairman, as point of personal privilege, I'd like to finish this.

Welch: Senator, I think it hurts you, too, sir.

4. Where was Eisenhower while McCarthy was pulling this crap?
I've always wondered why he didn't step in as Pres and head of his party. Was he too afraid, or what? Maybe he agreed with these moron, right-wing, republicans.

5. Me too
I’ve heard all kinds of Freeper excuses for this including the line that Eisenhower
was just sitting back to allow McCarthy to burn himself.

Coulter not withstanding, We are not and have not been that far away from this type of hate think.

Look at the problems Moore has had due to his outspokenness.
An extreme example I know, But no more so than Ann Coulter.
