Reagan's Senility saved him from jail.......will bush's?....
back then, they called it senility, i remember. many many pundits, comedians, and cartoonists had a hay day with jokes about reagan's obvious deteriorating mental capacity. he was the oldest pres ever elected. so it was a natural association.

now, it's called alzheimer's, and even the word senile has become bad. i remember watching reagan lie, 'under oath', over 150 times about treasouous acts in the government. he was given a free pass for every lie, cause of his advanced age, his lovability, and his increasing senility. even though he could quote passages by lincoln, he couldn't remember ANYTHING about iran contra.

if he was lying, it's treason. if he was senile, he should have been removed from office in term one.

clinton lied under oath, ONE TIME, over a trifle compared to iran contra. he was fucking impeached.

now bush, who is also obviously deteriorationg mentally in office, may also get a free pass over some of the most treasonous acts in american history. we all know he's a mental midget, the same thing they said about reagan, i was there.

will bush's senility give him a get out of jail free card?

1. No. It will be the moral bankruptcy of the GOP that will keep * out of
jail. Lest we forget that rule of law, personal responsibility and accountability, ethics, etc. fly out of the window when applied to one of their own. Don't forget their fondness for pardoning their criminals either. I remember my dad going at me for the pardon of Mark Rich and my response, "I can't get all worked up over that right now 'cause I'm still not over the pardoning of Nixon, Weinberger and the Iran-Contra gang". He didn't have much to say after that.

2. George W. Bush is not senile.....
...so that defense will not save his sorry ass from prosecution of war crimes and treason against America. No, his only chance will be to get re-elected or re-appointed in November, establish a dictatorship and turn America into the vision that his grandfather, Prescott Bush and his father, George Bush Sr. fostered and the GOP neo-cons are helping to build, which is a fascist run America dominating the entire world.

4. Trust me! They'll Come UP With Something!

They had a great 'out' with Alzheimer's.

Bush will have one, too. Ohh, they'll *call* it something else, but mark my words... Bush will "come down with" some ailment that'll cover his sorry ass and give him the *same* pass St. Ronnie had!

Twonk's Syndrome or some variant of it. Mad Cowboy Disease, perhaps?

3. Just a picking point, if you don't mind
In my opinion, Clinton did not lie under oath. Some way the court came up with the darnest definition of "sex" you ever saw, but that's the definition you have to use. He did press the bounds, however, and received an appropriate punishment. Finally, even if you assume that he lied, it was not material, and as such not perjury.

way too many just accept he lied without ever once understanding the legal definiton of perjury...or even the importance/nuances of how sex was legally defined...

and for a nation that likes to rant about the "rule of law"..or "we are a nation of laws"...I find it all too telling that they do.

7. Reagan's senility should not have saved him
nor should anything save Shrub from being charged and tried...

too many folks want to preserve some sacred vision of america..and in the doing, destroy all that's good about america in the process..

8. Sorry, but your premise is faulty. Reagan never would have gone to jail.
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 05:24 PM by boxster
Bush I would have pardoned him. Guaranteed.

The situations are incomparable. Assuming that we win in November, there won't be any presidential pardons for W. Whether or not we do anything about it will have very little to do with W's mental faculties or lack thereof.

Besides, it would be very difficult to prove that a guy in his 50's is senile. Stupid maybe, but not senile.

Edit: I must disagree that Bush is "obviously deteriorating" in office. He's been an idiot most of his adult life. I don't think that he's getting any worse - I think he's *always* been like this.

9. "I don't recall"
If anyone has ever watched footage from the Watergate investigation you will notice that this phrase, "I don't recall", seems to have gotten its start there.

Ronald Reagan made it famous though by saying it over 150 times during his testimony to Congress.

Yet, if one of us ever gets into trouble and has to testify in court I am willing to bet saying "I don't recall" in your defense WON'T work.

Fuck Reagan and to hell with anyone who defends him.
