Query on the Reagan administration:
I'm looking for a short summary of the NEGATIVES in the Reagan administration. I believe it had the most indicted/convicted officials to date. I located this URL which lists them: http://liberalslikechrist.org/a-JesusNoRepublican/reagan.html

Any more ideas? There's a Reagan-lover on my Union BBS ("titless Ann Coulter" best describes him) who's freaking out in bathetic praise of that "Great Communicator". He and the few others are entitled to a decent interval to grieve, but not all year.

3. Thanks.
I'm on the Truth Out mailing list so I caught that Will Pitts article. I'll check out the other link in detail later.

What really burns me about that Reagan-loving creep is that when I was posting there about the Wellstone tragedy a few years ago, I got damn little consideration from him.

4. Few suggestions:
Firstly, for his family's sake (especially Mrs. Reagan) I am sorry he passed away. Before anyone flames me, I believe that we can dislike a person's action, and still like the person. I guess its from my upbrining. I didn't like the actions of the Reagan administration and worked like hell to see him defeated both in 1980 and 1988. Folks he came very close to getting the GOP nomination in 1976.

Right now, Mr. Reagan's passing is still very "fresh", he hasn't even been buried yet. Give his passing a few years and his administration will have more perspective.

I know many Democrats that couldn't wait to vote Carter out of office; if people think that some of the comments against Kerry on DU are bad, I could give them a lesson from the 1980 Carter vs Kennedy race!

Reagan's greatest achievement was that he colaced the Republican party. Up to that point, the GOP was perceived as the party of the rich, the so-called "white glove" Republicans ala Rockefeller. He made it more down to earth.

On the negative side, I couldn't believe that the former President of the Screen Actors Guild would fire the air traffic controllers like he did in his first term. I think that he turned a blind's eye on the growing AIDS epidemic which started during his first term. The tax cuts that were implemented during his term were misleading and I think cost our country dearly. The economy was still out of wack until Bill Clinton was elected and balanced the budget. Reagan also surrounded himself with synchophats.

but NOBODY get's a few years pass. The cruelty of Alzeimer's on friends and loved ones is well worth noting, but "compassion to opponents" has pretty well disappeared from most Republicans' vocabulary, and dating from that Reagan era.

5. Here's a very thorough chronology of Reagan's two terms.

Fascinating reading. Lots of ammunition.
