Tax cuts and social programs. challenge from a con

I am arguing with a con and he just stepped in it by saying.."Name ONE social program that money was "TAKEN AWAY FROM", in favor of tax cuts.... JUST ONE!"

Sure, I could rattle off aid to the states and head start and others. But why should I get all the fun?

I think we should compile a list of all the social programs that are now in trouble because of the tax cuts. what do you guys say?

2. It is more how it effects the states ~ Most social Programs are State run

AWARE programs SEARCH programs Aid to families with dependent Children, Youth services, Homeless shelters, Rehab units, local fire depts. and Police depts. Local Parks, Harbors and Recreation. The list is almost endless. When the States resources get cut back so severely most social programs take a hit. Hell even Education is taking huge hits. Just because there isn't a Federal Social Program taking noticable cuts doesn't mean the cuts aren't happening.

3. Does he mean spending cuts or growth cuts?

All social programs have been cut so that the spending in those programs is not enough to keep up with inflation. But four areas have been reduced to lower spending levels than before Bush took office.

These include Unemployment Compensation, Family Support, Student Loans, Foster Care and Adoption Assistance. On retirement benefits..although the funding for these benefits has increased, this is due to the increase of beneficiaries. These benefits are less generous than the ones previously offered.

Bush has grown NON DEFENSE government spending 12.5% annually...If we cut it down to 6% next year, I'm sure some here will call it a "cut"...but in reality, every area of government has grown larger every year...along with the tax cuts...this is why we have huge deficits. Thanks bush
