It's perfect, I wouldn't have it any other way. 14. The Replies Were Interesting

Just glanced through them, and I noticed fewer freeper respondents than I would have expected. The thread settled down to a discourse on AIDS for the most part, highlighting Reagan's role in suppressing AIDS research.

After the initial surge of emotion - from all sides - dies down, I believe that middle-of-the-road Americans will remember the left's response to Reagan's death not so much for our bitterness toward the MAN, but for his anti-democratic, misanthropic POLICIES. If there's any good to come from Reagan's death, let it be a historical review of all the reasons WHY he was so despised. In the long run, it may help counterbalance the heroic, mythic claptrap being spouted this week - and that will continue over the next few months.

I say, let the RW keep making their pronouncements of the left's callousness. Even if it goes unspoken, their judgments beg the question: WHY? Consciously or subconsciously, people will consider the reasons behind our hatred.

This is an unfair accusation. While I am a Democrat (and by the way, Reagan was once one, too; check your history, folks), I would NEVER celebrate the death of a president, regardless of party. Someone posted a link to democraticunderground in which a few people made some comments that were considered in poor taste; however, this by no means represents the views of all Democrats..liberal, conservative, moderate or otherwise. Thank you.

I envy your moderation. For my part, I feel a need for catharsis - to vent some of the anger and frustration that I've felt for the last 20-odd years. I thought I had left Reagan for dead 10 years ago, but the old feelings came to the surface after hearing of his death. If I can counteract just a bit of the mythology springing up in his wake, I'll feel vindicated.

I remember being in DC in the sweltering sun while Act-Up activists held die-ins on the street in front of the White House., thanks to Reagan taking 6 YEARS to even mention the word AIDS in public.
