Why should we treat the Reagan's with respect?
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 12:11 PM by Liberal_Guerilla
Reagan was a mean old man, an old codger. Who created a nation where millions of ordinary people have been sent to years of prison for non-violent drug offenses. A nation where corporate greed continues to go un-punished, leaving tax payers with the bill.

He is a mean spirit who had no trouble lying his pants off before god and country. I saw a re-run of him on c-span the other night where he gave a long speech for the Republican convention in the 1992 election. He was a vile mean spirited liar, and I take comfort that he couldn't help out Poppy Bush then, and won't help out little Bush now.

He did not look out for the interest of all Americans, just those in the top economic bracket. His economics was a disaster to this nation, and here we are once again reaping the sour fruit of Reaganomics. His administration was a graveyard of suffering for the American people.

And now, the corporate right wing media is trying to re-write this mean fools legacy. I'm not buying it, I haven't forgot what that asshole did to this country. I don't care if he is dead. How many people did his policies kill or made to suffer? Probably too many to count.

I have no compassion for him or Nancy, They got off easy. If the world were just, they would both end up like Ceausescu. Guilty of crimes against the nation and it's people.

"Mister, don't call that dog a hero, call him shit head."--From the movie, The Jerk.

2. It's sickening.
Watching CNN this morning, You would swear that Wolf Blitzer is sitting on a Reagan shaped dildo. You are right, Meanwhile back in Iraq, hell is being unleashed. But now for the weather in simi valley.

Puke...

3. The RR legacy
Is a pile of stinking yellow trickle down.

The myth must be destroyed. We must drive a stake through it's heart. Put it out of our misery once and for all.

Forget riding on the high horse. The fight is in the trenches. Hand to hand combat. Relentless truth shall be stake through the heart. Let it Rip.

4. I couldn't agree more.
This is exactly how the right fights. So why should we continue to take crap from them.

7. Manson
Wasn't he convicted of leading a group of people to go out and kill?

Looks like RR, et al, studied up on him, eh?

6. I don't respect him. I have sympathy for his family,
having lost loved ones myself. The stupid networks are going to lose a ton of money by keeping this RR train going all week. I'm on C-SPAN, Court T.V., Discovery, and History channels, plus knitting and reading 100% of my waking time until its over. I suspect there are many others doing the same thing, i.e. avoiding the neverending Reagan fest.

8. Ron Jr and Patti are staunch Dems, Nancy, despite her past may well
prove devastating to the Bushies* over the hypocracy of stem cell policy. Ron Jr has been almost deliciously brutal in his condemnation of Bush* (see the archived Salon article frequently referenced here, if you are in doubt). Funerals are for the living, not the dead. Respect for the family does not imply respect for the man.

9. Because he was President.
It's just my personal opinion that all Presidents, whether I agree with them politically or not, should be honored after death. And their families should be allowed to mourn in private, despite the Media Nazi's shoving cameras in their face.

10. I disagree.
A man should be held accountable for his actions in life, even into his death. We still hold hitler accountable for his atrocities, should we forgive him?

12. He was the one who disgraced the Presidency.
The things he did while in office were far worse than anything being said about him today.

14. Why? Seriously.
Why should anyone get a free ride just because they were president? I agree with you about leaving the family alone but "honoring" someone because once upon a time they wielded power is just silly. Worse yet, it's enabling. Any failure to recognize Reagan's (or anyone elses) policies for exactly what they were only allows us to make the same mistakes all over again.

Who else should be honored just because they once held authority? King George 3? Pol Pot? Mao? Stalin? Emperor Hirohito?

17. Oh I definitely agree...
...that the entire truth about Reagan's presidency should come out in public, and I'm not talking about respecting the man's presidency (I hated much of what he did), but I'm talking about showing respect for the fact that he was a U.S. President while he's being eulogized until after his burial.

And the media better be treating Carter and Clinton the same way as they're treating Reagan right now when it's their time to go... talking about their accomplishments and allowing mourners to grieve over their death respectfully.

I dread that day.

15. fuck that. He was president, not king
I refuse to honor Reagan, Nixon, Andrew Johnson, or Polk for that matter.

I also don't have much use for people who misuse apostrophes but I'll let it go this one time.

11. The gentleman part of me says we shouldn't be speaking ill
of Reagan. But, the American part of me says, "Hell yes. Why should he be treated like he's some sort of hero when in fact, he was a criminal?" He did terrible things to our Country and got off Scot free.
