Dr. Barbara Simons is the Berkeley scientist, and League of Women Voters member, who helped to shut down the Pentagon's Internet voting project. She is a dynamite speaker and a powerful force for paper ballots.
She's running for President of the League of Women Voters, the group who currently has taken the wrong-headed stance of opposing paper ballots (you heard me). The League is perhaps the single biggest obstacle to paper ballots in the United States today.
Call your local delegates -- the delegates are the only ones who can vote. Get 'em to vote for Dr. Simons! Her platform is to turn the League around on this issue. If the League turns, so will congress, I predict.
If you are a member, there are still delegate spots open. If you are a pro-paper ballots League of Women Voters member who can be in Washington D.C. this Saturday morning to help vote Dr. Simons in, email me and I'll make sure you get info on how to become a voting delegate.
I joined the League of Women Voters. I hope to be there, not 100% positive I can get there by Saturday for the vote, though. But having Dr. Simons on the ballot makes it worth extra effort.

By the way, currently the AADP (American Association of Disabled Persons) is on an all-out and ill-informed rampage against Dr. Simons. The talking points they are spreading contain known falsehoods. Very frustrating.
See also the short blurb on the National Federation of the Blind taking a $1 million payment, getting into partnership with Diebold, then going on a shakedown cruise trying to force Ohio counties to buy Diebold touch screens. Didn't work too well -- thanks to the brilliant work of Ohio State Senator Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo, Lucas County) all the contracts were rescinded by the senate, forcing counties to reaffirm; only FOUR of 31 counties chose to proceed with touch screens!
That's all for now, folks. And even if you are not a League of Women Voters member, if you can, please get thy butt to D.C. to pass out the literature linked on Black Box Voting to the League of Women Voters(
http://www.blackboxvoting.org) in D.C. -- info on where and when on the web site.
