Grover says: Reagan on $10 bill "will be approved within the week"
caught him while I was channel surfing, and he seems to think that it's a slam-dunk . . . says he has all the votes needed, and that he hasn't seen any opposition at all . . . think the Dems in Congress will sit back and allow this to happen during the Reagan canonization? . . .

2. There needs to be a cooling off period.
Doesn't someone have to be dead for a certain time before they can appear on a stamp? Should be the same way for currency. I also feel that should have been applied to JFK, though. He was a good president, but I don't know that he did enough to be featured on currency. But since his life was tragically cut short, people let the emotion of the moment override an honest historical assessment.

50. Stamps: 10 years, except presidents
The POTUS is eligible immediately upon his demise. Tricky Dick was on a stamp within a year.

60. Did you ever see the envelope
Tricky Envelopes put out?

"Tricky Envelopes

Tom Zajak originated the idea of comic news, using topical cartoons to relay news, with the Santa Cruz Comic News. Now, there are many such papers in cities across the country. So when Zajak got a hold of the Richard Nixon postal stamp, it inspired him to create an envelope depicting a jail cell so when the stamp was attached, Nixon appeared to be in prison (where he belonged?). The next thing he knew, Zajak’s Nixon envelope was being waved around on national TV by Dan Rather. Success with the Nixon envelope lead to his creation of a hemp field envelope with the American Flag stamp flying high, and Washington and Jefferson harvesting hemp utilizing an Iowa stamp. Finally, Zajak used hemp paper to create Hempelopes, and now he has six designs and a display case. What’s next? “Maybe I’ll make matching cards for our envelopes,” says Zajak."

Somebody will come up with an appropriate one for Reagan, I'm sure.

3. Luckily, with issues like this, most states and the feds have specific
controls over making such drastic changes.

For example I co-wrote legislation for one city that requires ANY building or street re-naming cannot be done within a year of the person's demise, in order to assure that the intent stands the test of time.

Thus, in the passion and frenzy of reagan's demise, these nutter things are bound to seem like a great idea, but ultimately will literally be forgotten.

alpha-tax-cut monkey grover has no pull with the congress or the treasury department.

Secondly, I believe there might be an outcry against this sort of thing. Nancy said no dime, therefore I might suspect that she doesn't want ronnie on any money...

Thirdly, they'll have to settle for the traditional postage stamp... which probably be about as popular as the nixon postage stamp.

Those GOP M.F.s are doing anything they want.. what's next? Reagan on Mount Fucking Rushmore? How about Bush? The GOP is just soiling themselves over a republican that ACTUALLY managed to get re-elected. I guess, in their sad little lives, that is worthy of putting him on a bill. this is just ludicrous. Reagan was the beginning of the demise of our Country.. and Clinton saved us.. only to have Bush the Moran steal the election and trash it again.

66. That's news to me
I always thought it was semi-illegal to write on currency. Apparently it's not illegal unless it's ripped or perforated, although "disfigures" is a fairly loose term. I take it you can write anything you want as long as it's still considered legal tender, which to me means anything short of shredding it to the point where a vending machine wont accept it. Good to know. :)

"The proposal has the support of Ronald Reagan Legacy Project, which is headed by Grover Norquist, an influential conservative activist."

"But GOP activist Norquist has said he has already had discussions with treasury secretary John Snow and senior White House staff about the idea, and found no opposition."

22. Link to the CNN poll and article
http://money.cnn.com/2004/06/08/news/economy/reagan_hamilton/index.htm?cnn=yes

One person opposed to removing Hamilton from the $10 bill is Ron Chernow, author of an acclaimed biography of the revolutionary war hero and founding father.

He told USA Today that he believed even Reagan would have objected to the snub of Hamilton.

"Hamilton was the prophet of the capitalist system that Ronald Reagan so admired," he was quoted as saying.

78. 55% of the 77,000 who have responded to the CNN poll have said "none"
Check out the poll results (but first, please vote "none").
The other 45% of the votes are divided between a dime (7%), the $10 bill (23%), the $20 bill (10%) or other (5%).

Add your vote then send results to those you love and your legislatures. We all know how they pay attention to polls.

Let's remembers Ronnies & Nancy's message "Just Say No!"

until ALL their papers have been available to the public for at least TWENTY-FIVE years.. That would allow all the truth to be available..

Can you imagine, how we would all feel if Watergate had not been revealed until AFTER Nixon had served his terms and had been regaled as a GREAT president..???

We have not even SEEN Reagan's papers yet.. Junior locked them out of sight..

It makes as much sense to put John Wayne on the $10 bill.. He was a famous actor of the same era..

Alexander Hamilton is on the $10 bill. He was the first Secretary of the Treasury, the co-author of the Federalist Papers, practically invented the New York Stock Exchange, and was Washington's very own Rove.

Hamilton should NEVER be replaced on the currency because of his historic status.

Reagan isn't even fit to be on TP.

Most Americans are probably ignorant of the essential role played by Hamilton in the founding of our country. He earned his place on the ten. History may judge that Reagan deserves a place among our national symbols, but it is way too soon to know.

59. Why not a compromise
I don't particularly want to see Reagan on the $10 bill myself...and I'm sure the spineless Democrats in Congress will go along with it, just like they do everything else that has to do with Reagan. But why can't they produce both Reagan 10's and Hamilton 10's. Is there any law that says you can't have two different faces on the same denomination ?

68. 20's and 5's
I won't use the 10's.

Why honor someone who could have been generous with the non-rich people, who could have avoided Iran-Contra, who could have been honest about the communist fighting propaganda, who reversed environmental progress, whose administration was involved in deaths of innocents - thousands and thousands who didn't live to 93, and someone whose staff pulled off one of the dirtiest political tricks of the 20th century with the Jimmy Carter hostage plan.

73. What's the difference?
Hamilton was an obnoxious, anti-democratic son of a bitch too. How many dead presidents on our bills DO you like?

1 - Washington. A man of pure integrity. Aces in my book.
2 - Jefferson. Both an idealist and a pragmatist. The brains behind the Republic.
5 - Lincoln. Divisive, had his faults, but did preserve the Union.
10 - Hamilton. A Federalist with an aristocratic streak. Would have prospered in the Bush Admin.
20 - Jackson. Ignored the Supreme Court and forced the Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, etc. on the Trail of Tears. Racist. Fucker.
50 - Grant. Drunk. Corrupt. Did I mention drunk?
100 - Franklin. Not a president, but an important Founder. Odd bird, but good.
500 - McKinley. Corporatist. Like Bush. Say no more.
1000 - Grover Cleveland?!? Oh well, at least he made a comeback against Harrison, who stole the election.
5000 - Madison. A stand-up kind of guy who defended our nation sensibly. Like John F. Kennedy. Or John F. Kerry.
10,000 - Chase. Supreme Court Justice who presided over Andrew Johnson's impeachment trial. Pretty obscure, eh?
100,000 - Wilson. An idealist, deeply flawed, but a good man.

Maybe let Reagan adorn the 10,000. That way, only the people who loved him best ever have to look at him.

76. It's against the law to deface 'murikan money.
Yes, I know many do, and no, no law enforcement agency seems to have made this a lawbreaking priority, however, do you want to be the first? No telling what dopey track Mr. Ashcroft might head in if he feels St. Ronnie isn't being treated with proper respect.

82. wrong
it is illegal only to make it illegible/unuseable.
as long as the bill is intact and the denomination and other identifying information clearly visible, there is nothing illegal about it.

79. Nancy said "no" to the dime...
she'll say "no" to this too. If the Pukes keep this up I believe they are going to get an earful from her, IMHO.

I can't wait until she asks all of these Pukes who are glorifying Ronnie if they are willing to support stem cell research to show their true affection for him!
