Joe Conason makes no sense!!
Edited on Thu Aug-14-03 09:02 AM by Born_a_Democrat
Well...at least according to some here that accused me of making no sense in using the words "Naderite" and for saying that Greens were just proxy voters for the GOP...I'm glad to see a prominent Democrat and writer agree...

quote:

...the Green Party's recall candidate...That would be Peter Camejo, the whiner who blamed Democrats when Ralph Nader got pied yesterday. (He certainly has no reason to think a Republican would do anything like that...)

He continues by saying:

The San Francisco Examiner reports that Nader "hurled the pie back, striking a bystander," which serves as a perfect metaphor for Naderite politics

Oh my...not that word. At which point he asks Arianna Huffington :

Why would she hook up with the GOP-friendly Greens?

Boy vindication feels good.

EDIT: Sorry forgot to post the link to the article:

1. Regardless, his one line in that piece was great....
When he notes that after getting hit with the pie, that Nader threw it back and hit an innocent bystander, he remarked that it was the perfect metaphor for Naderite politics.

I just thought that was a fairly clever remark/observation, even though it was the obvious one.

Nader should not run, and I believe this time around the Greens should stay out of the national races. Bush and the GOP should not be given any advantages, and the Greens should recognize that.

However, if you want to talk about the REAL enablers of Republican POwer it is the Centrist Corporate Democrats, who have sucked the life out of the political system by denying people a clear liberal alternative to the GOP Agenda.

The Democratic Establishmen has spent so much effort trying to smotehr liberalism over the last 15 years that many people -- including many in the mainstream -- simnply see no clear choices between two wings of the Coroprate/Beltway Elite Party.

Don't blame the majority of Greens, or even Nader, for reacting against a political system in which even the moderate Howard Dean is branded as "too left," and people like Kucinich and Sharpton are ignored as wild-eyed crazies or treated as an amusing but irrelevant sideshow.

I agree about the liberal nature of Kucinich and the moderate nature of Dean (hell I may even vote for him)...but I disagree that Nader is liberal.

Nader is out to destroy liberalism by infiltrating it....the best example I can offer is this:

If you have an automobile that is completely built but in which the seats are not as comfortable as you'd like them to be, you don't try to build your own car from scratch with no tools or raw materials...it is ludicrous...you take the one that's already built and FIX IT...

If you start taking pieces out of the good car and putting them in your jalopy you're going to wind up with two shitty cars...

What am I from fu<king MARS or something that I can see this clearly and this guy can't?

Insert attempts at witty reponse to above question here:

12. Witty response
Okay, this won't be witty, but an honest response.

Nader and many otehrs have been trying for years to fix the jalopy. But they can't even get listened to by the Democratic Establishment. They were marginalized, ignored and dismissed as the "leftist fringe," by the centrist corporate enablers.

So there are years of frustration behind the mood of Nader and others. They don't see the jalopy as fixable.

I don;t necessarily agree with them but....

7. having Joe Conason agree with you doesn't vindicate anything
he, or anyone else, may be wrong.

btw, Nader threw the pie back? Is there video of this, I would love to see this. :-)

10. oh here we go
as Joe would put it:

Green whiners

And according to the witness he didn't throw it back, he actually threw it at someone else....

Someone tries to attack you and you attack someone elses...hmm...even sounds like BUSH:

Osama >>attack>> America >>attack>> IRAQ...

coincidence? I think not...:-)

8. Faulty logic to use this to vindicate yourself
Nader doing something can surely be referred to as 'Naderite'

but how do you make the jump to Greens are therefore Naderites.

If the Green party had issued a call to pie all Dems following

Naders reaction then I would agree with you

But you are stretching with this one

11. A "jump"? More like a baby step
how do you make the jump to Greens are therefore Naderites.

Simple. It wasn't the Dems who put Nader at the top of their ticket.

I really have to wonder at the priorities of anyone who would expend more Limbaugh-like energy and venomous bashing of the person responsible for the freedom of information act then they would for the present junta in charge that would seek to dispose of it.

19. The Dem Party, confused & in disarray, controlling 0 branches of govt,
about to lose control of California, lacking unity, lacking a cogent analysis of what is wrong with the country, unable to examine itself honestly in the mirror & take responsibility for its own state of weakness & fear -- this Democratic Party, 2/3 controlled by the same conservative forces that run the GOP, wants to label Greens as "whiners." Have I got that right?

Who said irony was dead?

21. *sigh* If only people would consider this is the California Democratic
Party that SWEPT every major statewide office last election. The CALIFORNIA Democratic party is NOT the DNC nor is it the DLC. WE have some of the most progressive Democrats in the nation.

The California Democratic party stood up to CORPORATE farms and forced them to honor labor agreements made previously when the farms were privately owned.

Say what you want nationally but I wish people who spoke about my state had an ounce of knowledge about Califronia Dems before they posted. California Dems are progressive enought hat the first candidate elected to public office as GREEN...AUDIE BOCK switched BACK to the Democratic party after serving.
