it was the republicans attempt to make Clinton's book more a focal point than Kerry's campaigning...so they do what they do best... sent talking points around hoping to make Clinton's book a bigger news item than Kerry...and whined about it on every radio/tv/news station they could.
Anytime you're out of the news, you're effectively out of the mind of would be voters. So if Clinton could get the most news, then Kerry would have been on the back-burner...and that is what republicans want...Kerry getting as little news coverage as possible.
There's also the association factor..."Clinton steals Kerry steam"...Clinton-Democrat...Kerry...Democrat.....and possible voters for Kerry, who didn't vote for Clinton ,are swayed.
Whereas:
They want Bush linked to Reagan and for Bush to ride Reagan' coat-tail of mythical proportions...
Some swing voters will just hear Bush speak about a man, (Reagan) , that they did vote for..and think maybe Bush isn't all that bad.
I'm not saying ti changes the mind of voters who are soldily one way or the other...but it does help with those people who place their votes based on some other factor.
