This is for all you geezers out there who might remember the huge popularity of Wallace's unabashed racism. Wasn't the gipper just another bigot that was more acceptable to "decent white folks" because he was packaged with code words instead of Wallace's "in your face" style? I think You know exactly what I'm talking about.

Wallace was a bigot and that was his main story line. I don't think Reagan was an bigot. He was unconcerned with all disadvantaged people equally, it wasn't a race thing. Kinda like W.

3. Reagan was a bigot - he just spoke in code |

Like announcing his candidacy in Philadelphia, MS and babbling about states rights when he did it.
As much as I disliked Wallace at least he didn't make any secret about it. (And didn't he repent before he died?)

Wallace eventually saw the light and, amazingly, was elected to a fourth term as Governor of Alabama late in his career with a healthy percentage of black votes, something Reagan couldn't even have dreamed of.
