3. who gives a shit whether or not he's off drugs
He can stay on drugs as long as he wants as far as I'm concerned. But, I don't want to pay for him to be broadcast over armed forces radio.

it was no more than a fraternity prank? Or would they think, "Wow! Rush is really stupid! Doesn't he know torture when he sees it? "

18. Give them a choice. CNN, NPR, Air America, BBC etc.
The American soldier doesn't live in a vacuum. Overseas they may be limited in english language radio or TV. But they know what's out there available to them when stateside and it should be available overseas, no matter the theater.

20. Difference in degrees of propaganda..
Rush Limbaugh is overt, partisan propaganda.... Of course the military would rather the troops hear pro-war messages rather than anti-war messages. In fact, they would never permit the opposite viewpoint to Limbaugh.

So what you said is consistent with that.

The problem with a Poll: they have not been exposed to alternate views.
So how do you expect them to judge what other programs' views could give them?

12. U. S. Law actually addresses this issue.
(snip)
The government is barred by law from propagandizing within the U.S., but the OSI's new plan will likely lead to disinformation planted in a foreign news report being picked up by U.S. news outlets.

22. That's my stance, too.
Brock should join the service if he wants a say in this.

Besides, if we push this, there will be no chance of AFN ever broadcasting Air America when Kerry wins, and the Repugs will charge after NPR for anything that doesn't promote constitutional amendments against gay marriage or for school prayer.

I prefer to pick my fights carefully, and this is not a punch worth throwing.

27. People working for our government shouldn't be served opinion
of the news. That should be left to them.

When our military radio station is the only one available in English where a lot of people are, while they are working for us, it should provide actual clean information, like news, without the heavy, nasty spin from ANY PARTY.

Commercial radio is a different matter, apparently.

If this ever gets challanged legally, I'll bet the situation will be changed appropriately.

28. I honestly believe that the military should be able to pick it.
It's bad enough that some of them are restricted to only one English language channel where they're stationed, but when I was in and everything was absolutely neutral, there was nothing but boring programming. After you do this, you've got to cut out anyone who makes political jokes (Leno and Letterman), sitcoms that are more sympathetic to one side than the other, dramas such as the West Wing, and virtually all news broadcasts.

The only way to make it bias free is to shut it down. It's a channel for the military, and if that crap is what they want, let them have it. Whose mind is Limbaugh going to change, anyway?

14. Unbelievable that we even
have to do this...The brainwashing never ends, does it? Maybe we should start a petition to demand that he not be replaced by Hannity, Savage, Coulter, O'Reilly, or any of the other puss-bags...

Or Joseph Goebbels

19. Military Media is definitely Right-Slanted
Man, you guys have no idea how bad American Forces Network is slanted. I'm here in Japan, and AFN's channel for news might as well be renamed "Fox News Channel with a little bit of CNN Headline News Thrown In" It's freaking awful.

AFRTS's programming can be found at: http://myafn.dodmedia.osd.mil/
