Do you make an effort to buy French?

Ever since the "Freedom Fries" episode, I've made it a point to purposely buy French wine, cheese, etc. to help offset any boycott the right-wingers had on French products. Am I the only one who does this?

(I'm thinking right now, geez, Republicans probably don't buy that much wine and cheese anyway....more like beer and Cheetos. Not that there's anything wrong with that :beer:)

as imported products are generally pricier. But yes, I buy French wine, cheese, and pate.

i buy $8-10 bottles of french wine all the time & the quality is amazing for the price. you'd have to spend twice that on oakey crap west coast chardonnays to equal it.

all european wine is a better deal than american. plus it has the added cost of shipping. maybe they're subsidizing exports. i dunno, i don't care.

I do buy some graphic novels from Les Humanoides Associates, however. And certainly I watch French films (can't recommend highly enough the fairly recent psychological thriller "With A Friend Like Harry"--Netflix has it.) Can't get enough French culture. :-)

8. Well - the "Freedom" thing has nothing to do with it

Although I have the impression that we do get higher-quality French products since about a year.

French vegetables tend to be of better quality than the ones from other regions.
Cheese and Wine? certainly, although I like Dutch and Swiss cheese as well. Wine? I finally found a good Cahor for €5, so I'll probably buy more French wine in the future - for the summer it's German Organic Wine anyway.

Of course it's not an expensive thing to do here :P .

T-shirts my stepdaughter brought me from France that loudly proclaim Paris, France on them and I wear them shopping all the time. So far no one has dressed me down for them and many have told me how cute they thought they were.

I buy French whenever I can. For foodies, I found a great source on eBay, a store that imports from Lyons. They have one of the best (and most inexpensive) Herbes de Provence I've had. Their tapenades are excellent as well. http://stores.ebay.com/The-Frenchy-Bee

The problem is that I'm not a big cheese person and I prefer Australian and Californian wines. I'm certainly not opposed to buying French products though and I celebrate the French kiss every chance I get. :)

For what it's worth, I've just enrolled my 4 yr old daughter into an International school that follows the guidelines set by the French Ministry of National Education. All lessons will be taught in both French and English and she will also be learning Spanish as well. Wish us luck!

replies. I'm all for buying American, too. I live in California and support their wine market loyally! :party: (I'm surprised the cons didn't boycott California!) I was just so ticked when they started that childish boycott and I like French stuff anyway so I upped my consumption and felt such satisfaction standing there in the Trader Joe's aisle. I especially tend to buy French cheese because I know they don't use growth hormones on their dairy cows. (Pretty sure, anyway.)
