About those new Enron tapes.
I was just reading Tuesday's thread on them at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=611052 and I can't help but think of Abu Ghraib and the scapegoating in progress there.
The things those employees are saying sound like a group following orders to screw up California's economy to me...

"You gotta think the economy is going to f------g get crushed, man. This is like a recession waiting to f-----g happen."

"This is where California breaks."
"Yeah, it sure does man"

"What we need to do is to help in the cause of, ah, downfall of California," an employee is heard saying on the tapes. "You guys need to pull your megawatts out of California on a daily basis."

"They're on the ropes today," says another employee. "I exported like a f------g 400 megs."

"Wow,'' says another employee, "f--k 'em, right!"

We're going to end up with some show courts-martial...oops, I mean trials...and no one will look up the chain of command.
"It was just a few 'rogue employees'...move along now!"
I'm sick of "moving along"! Dammitall, between Bush and Lay being buddies from well before the presidential election, and Cheney's secret "energy policy" meetings and Scwarzenegger getting invited into meetings with Lay, and now these tapes which as far as I'm concerned demonstrate conclusively that these taped "gloaters" were acting in concert and under direction from higher-ups to break the State of California, and then the recall campaign...the whole thing seems so obvious and stinks to high heaven. Why the hell won't one reporter with some freakin' integrity tie it up with a bow and drop it off on the doorstep in the morning?
Son of a bitch, is there not one real reporter left? :grr:

Krugman stands out, as does Ivins.

Sickening what most Americans just swallow without question, isn't it?

9. Paul Krugman is great, and I'd marry Molly if she'd have me :-)
but they're more editorial writers than reporters. I'm thinking more along the investigative lines though, like Woodward and Bernstein did with Watergate, and Seymour Hersh to a lesser extent with Abu Ghraib. Just pick up the scent and follow it all the way, no matter what kind of obstacles are put in the way.

3. Gee, aren't you glad you recalled Davis?
Sure looks like he's to blame for the budget crunch...

11. The crew behind Dim Son is what worries me...
...I mean, taking over California is evil ambition enough, but when you tie it together with the war, and 9/11, and oil..jeez they're f**king scary. That's the party that needs to split up, not us.
Neo-cons are a whole different animal than real repukes, and it appears they'll stop at nothing to get what they want.

because its a big blue state.

And it makes an easy target since the Dem leadership is too spineless to stop them. Dems are asleep at the wheel as usual.
