A Statue Came Down, and Liberal Lies Along With It
By Michael Reagan

April 09, 2003
Wednesday - 1:50 pm

Like millions of my fellow Americans, I rejoiced as I watched United States Marines come to the aid of Iraqis trying to pull down a huge statue of Saddam Hussein. (Click here for photo). The Marines made short work of the statue to the delight of scores of Iraqis who vented their years of stored up anger at the Saddam dictatorship by beating on the fallen idol.

It was an historic moment reminiscent of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Decades of tyranny had ended, and along with it the lies and distortions of anti-Bush liberals, Democrats who predicted that all kinds of disasters would befall America if we went to war with Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

That statue was Iraq's Berlin Wall. And the naysayers, the Rangels and the Kerrys and the Conyers and the Pelosis and the Daschles and all of the American Baghdad Bobs who just a week ago were whining that we're wrong - that the president was wrong and there was going to be body bag after body bag coming home - that this is an unjust and illegal war, were the ones who have been proved wrong.

Instead, what we are seeing today, just a week later, is the beginning of freedom for the first time since Saddam's iron fist was clamped down on his people years ago.

1. Oops!
Good catch, TruthIsAll!

"I couldn't help thinking how different things are under George Bush than they were under President Clinton."

Yeah, me too, you dumbshit.

2. I guess he forgot that Clinton had to "cut and run" because he had
a republican controlled congress who would never allow for anymore force.

I guess he hasn't watched "Blackhawk Down" the documentary (not the movie) because at the end of the documentary, Mark Bowden clearly states it was the republican controlled congress that tied Clinton's hands.

And Mann Coulter accuses the liberals of rewriting history.

3. He Does Lie

"Under Clinton, it was the bodies of American soldiers being dragged though the streets of Mogadishu - an outrage Clinton allowed to go unpunished. His response was to cut and run."

In Richard Clarke's book, he talks about Clinton's reaction to this tragedy. Clinton didn't cut and run, he said fill the place up with troops so that we will be well fortified.

It was Bush Sr. who sent the troops in, and determined we only needed a smaller force.

You know, I don't know what we would have done before the Internet -- to connect all these lies to the facts. It is amazing to me to read some of this RW stuff that is clear lies - but before the Internet, we would never be able to find it to read it.

5. Let's see, wasn't it 283 marines blown up on Ronnie Raygun's watch?
And then he cut and run. And then he invaded a country smaller than Disneyland to make himself look like a big man. Gee, what a loser!

9. Now there's a point
Cut and run? If the situation is essentially hopeless, I think a casualty count of over 280 is worse than one less than 30 (Not sure of exact figure)

Coincidence about Chalabi being there, eh?

Michael, you are a liar.

Does he mean like his daddy did in Beirut? After the 241 Marines were blown up, RR went on TV and said "We're not leaving." 3 months later, Marines were on a ship.

Hey michael... remember "Bring it on!" Remember * saying that? Oh yeah, "Mission Accomplished" too. Son, you'd best just stay at home and keep quiet. You don't really want to be like yer daddy. You really don't.
It's not pretty.

7. My favorite part!
"That statue was Iraq's Berlin Wall. And the naysayers, the Rangels and the Kerrys and the Conyers and the Pelosis and the Daschles and all of the American Baghdad Bobs who just a week ago were whining that we're wrong - that the president was wrong and there was going to be body bag after body bag coming home - that this is an unjust and illegal war, were the ones who have been proved wrong."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the Berlin wall being torn down by citizens of East and West Berlin, not US (or any nation's for that matter) Marines. And I still don't see how knocking down a statue means that the war was just. If a man went on a rampage through a city, but knocked down a statue of a local government figure, does that make it all justified? That may be an extreme example, but the point is that the tearing down of a statue means nothing insofar as justifying the war.

That and I don't think the picture will become all that famous - people won't remember the war as a success, plus the picture isn't all that great...

8. OOO! I'm having a field day with this one
Edited on Thu Jun-10-04 08:44 PM by Leprechan29
I hadn't gotten to this part yet:

"We have watched one of the most amazing and successful military campaigns in all history and it came about despite the liberal propaganda we were being fed by the media and the Democrats and some retired military soreheads. Propaganda that the strategy was flawed, that we had an insufficient number of troops on the ground, that we had to pause because of all of this, that we were facing a quagmire in Baghdad and guerilla warfare from an outraged Iraqi citizenry that was rallying around the Saddam regime."

I think we all know what my point will be: It is apparent that there are not enough soldiers in Iraq and we are facing some nasty guerilla warfare as well. And those military soreheads? I would trust their judgement over Mr. Reagan's; Until he studies to become a military officer and is involved in orchestrating combat (or at least nation-building campaigns), I will take military judgement over Reagan's any day of the week (twice on Tuesdays).

14. An aside on Michael R.
From the coverage I have seen both at Simi Valley and in DC - he is being treated like an outsider. Granted, he's the adopted son of Ronald Reagan - not Nancy's. Could that be, in part, because he has been the most calculating of all of the progeny in making a buck off of Daddy? I wish he'd stop making a public spectacle of himself.

16. I wouldn't be surprised if Michael is out of the will
After all, Nancy's had power of attorney for 10 years or so, and the way the family is cutting him out of everything leads me to believe we'll have a Sinatra Family type feud when the dust settles.

17. Considering...
how tightly the wagons have always been circled around Nancy & Ronnie, I doubt if the kids stand to get much of anything until Nancy's demise. There again, I think it'll be Michael left out. Patti will do okay as long as she takes care of Mommie & mines the 'writing' field. Ron, Jr., I think, will continue to be pretty much is own man. Just my take.

19. Hey Michael, is your son still breaking into cars and stealing stereos?
He got some prison time for that, didn't he? More republican family values.

Fuck off, your father never loved you (no matter how much you shill for his perverse philosophy) Your adoption was just a photo op (not bad work for an ugly kid)

Yes, I am a very mean man :)
