And who cares where we get the money, as long as we win? Republicans never question the source of their money and they also never post disparaging remarks about major donors. That just isn't very smart.

That kind of attitude is the reason why am not a republican. If that's our attitude too, then I'm ashamed.

Soros has pledged his entire fortune to get rid of Bush .Surely that is something we can get behind , and maybe, be grateful for. Hoe about saying "thank you" instead of looking for ways to denigrate a generous donor?

If we had to check the credentials of everyone who claimed left-of-center politics, there would be fewer people on this side. Just be glad this side has the people it has now.

47. How exactly do you plan to control Soro's political ambition if he plans
to get a return on his investment? He sounds pretty brash to me and I don't think Democrats needs to do much to look like they're involved with the same cronyistic practices that we hate in the Republican party.

16. OK, I see your point...
Hmmmm... Interesting, need to sleep on this and do some research...

~snip~

But all of this is just the tip of the iceberg. What of the NGOs Soros established and finances? Who are the other leaders of these groups? Clark informs us that at Human Rights Watch, for example, there is Morton Abramowitz, U.S. assistant secretary of state for intelligence and research from 1985-1989` and now a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations; Warren Zimmerman former ambassador “whose spell in Yugoslavia coincided with the break up of that country”; and Paul Goble, director of communications “at the CIA-created Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (which Soros also funds).”
According to Clark, Soros’ International Crisis Group “boasts such ‘independent’ luminaries as the former national security advisers Zbigniew Brzezinki and Richard Allen, as well as General Wesley Clark, once NATO supreme allied commander for Europe. The group’s vice-chairman is the former congressman Stephen Solarz, once described as ‘the Israel lobby’s chief legislative tactician on Capitol Hill’ and a signatory, along with the likes of Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz, to a notorious letter to President Clinton in 1998 calling for a ‘comprehensive political and military strategy for brining down Saddam and his regime’.”

So much for Soros’ opposition to Bush’s Iraq policies.
There’s more! Who are Soros’s business partners at the Carlyle Group---one of the world’s largest private equity funds, which makes most of this profit from defense contracts? They include the former secretary of state James Baker and Frank Carlucci, former defense secretary, George Bush, Sr, and “until recently, the estranged relatives of Osama BinLaden.” Soros has invested more than $100 million in Carlyle, Clark tells us.

He also points out that “Soros may not, as sometimes suggested, be a fully paid-up CIA agent. But that his corporations and NGOS are closely wrapped up in U.S. expansionism cannot seriously be doubted.”

~snip~

55. Don't just sleep and read. You should also think about it
According to that excerpt, Soros is guilty of supporting the Iraq invasion based on the fact that one of the orgs Soros funds employs Stephen Solarz, who supported the Iraq invasion.

That's called "guilt by association" and it's pretty deceitful.

for 11,600 hits.

"Cathy writes of how George Bush was sitting in front of her in his office in Washington DC when, he opened a book at a page depicting lizard-like aliens from a far off, deep space place. Bush then claimed to be an 'alien' himself and appeared, before her eyes, to transform 'like a chameleon' into a reptile."

Rather use the sucker shamelessly for whatever he offers, but keep the cards close to the chest.

44. An interesting study, actually
Google the following:

crimes Ronald Reagan: 102,000 hits
crimes George Soros: 18,300 hits
crimes Bill Clinton: 335,000 hits
crimes George Washington: 505,000 hits
crimes Mother Theresa: 41,700 hits

From which we can infer:

1. George Washington was nearly 30 times the criminal that George Soros is.
2. George Soros is less than half the criminal that Mother Theresa was.
3. Google may not be the most accurate background check

51. Suspect background, but the GOP's benefactors are far worse!
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 08:17 AM by RatTerrier
True, Soros did bail out Dubya in Harkin. And he was a member of the Carlyle Group. Nobody really knows what his motives really are.

But I think Soros is a little less sleazy than some of the GOP sugar daddies. Hmmm...let's take a good hard look at some of them, shall we?

Sun Myung Moon - Cult leader (Unification Church). Loathed by the fundies until he bailed out Jerry Falwell's struggling empire, then had a problem removing Jerry's lips from his groin.

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/religion/cult/sun-myung-moon/

Speaking of Jerry, I wonder if he's ever heard of the concept of 'seperation of church and state'?

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/religion/televangelists/jerry-falwell/

As an added bonus, here's his partner in grime, Pat Robertson:

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/religion/televangelists/pat-robertson/

Both of these guys have funelled millions of dollars to GOP causes by bilking thier followers.

Okay, this guy's dead, but he did oh so much for the Nixon/Reagan/Bush election efforts. Got some jail time, and tried to buy a pardon. His name? Armand Hammer.

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/business/armand-hammer/

With friends like Ken Lay, who really needs enemies?

http://www.rotten.com/library/crime/corporate/enron/

A few others worth pointing out:

Richard Mellon Sciafe has thrown millions of dollars at ridiculous efforts to slander Bill Clinton. His objective was to overthrow a presidency. Hmmm... Isn't that treason?

Of course, we all know Diebold, right? Just how ethical is it to buy voting machines from one of Bush's biggest fundraisers?

And finally, since we have cult leaders and shady businessmen, why not one that effectively combines the two? Ever hear of Rich DeVos? He's the guy who owns the MLM cult known as Amway. And he's a big GOP contributor, one of the biggest.

Now I wonder, why isn't Bill O'Cryly going after THESE guys? After all, he does claim to be a 'fair and balanced' moderate, right?

62. the most avoided observation
That Soros himself and the articles constantly mention his WWII experiences and never blare the obvious connection that Soros considers himself warring- with good cause from personal memory- against the neo-fascist resurgence typified by the WH. NEVER does the media or his opponents get near the obvious subtext. Soros himself does not often cross that thin line into applying "the label" that most motivates his current activism.

Instead in his speeches he uses other stronger, equally valid concerns for the environment, global justice, the economy. He is no theoretical expert on some of these issues, except the economic, whose causes he champions, but theses are equally life and death and freedom issues.

In other words, whatever his background he has taken up the political crusade as a personal emotional cause. I think, once the neos have been taken down in flames, he would not continue on some equally grandiose Mr. Big plan to rule the world from the other side.

I can't escape the feeling(though the media can by not printing it) that his passion is constantly overboiling with memories of those other fun-loving neocons from Nazi Germany. It IS happening here. This common cause and the other, ideal America is what is moving him in this realm. All the "other stuff", as mammoth as his money operations are, comprise the search for some other talking point by the Right.
