Obviously we are being watched. We should do our best to keep DU "freeper" free and be ready to hit the alert button when needed. Also, we should note that a post that might start a flame war is not necessarily a freeper. But with the recent ratting out of posters here on DU, there has to be an increased awareness of what a serious threat these folks are to free speech.

I know I know, this is a private forum with our own rules and quite frankly I have heard all I want to hear from the repugs anyway (and they are a MASSIVE threat to our freedom of expression) but I am just playing devil's advocate.

6. Welcome shylock but you need to understand the history of DU....

DU was started because of the theft of the 2000 election. It did not take long to realize that if left to its own devices, the right-wing propaganda slugs would disrupt and take over DU just as they have taken over every means of communication in this country. The DU owners and Admin decided to make DU a voice for liberals and progressive-minded folks. It was their decision that it could not operate effectively with the disruption from Limbaugh and Hannity-types regurgitating their daily propaganda. So we try to advise anyone that agrees with those types of right-wing ideas that they might be happier someplace else. If you know someone like that, you may want to pass the word to them.

I know PLENTY like that, but I don't think they'd have any fun listening to our point of view anyway. Goodness knows they don't care to listen to me (and vice versa).

tactic involves taking punitive actions on DUers who post. They can whine, complain, and ridicule to their heart's content as far as I'm concerned. But they've gone over the line when they orchestrate intimidation and personal harm to an individual for words posted on a chatboard. They also don't confront the poster, but go straight to taking steps to harm them in efforts to silence them for good.
