I love it when people draw their own conclusions, then blame me.
Here is an example. I was telling some friends (some of them conservatives) about how much money Halliburton (and Brown and Root) are making over there in Iraq, and how the contracts weren't given through competetive bidding. Then I mentioned that Cheney still gets a million dollars a year from Halliburton.

One of them blurted out, "I can't believe you accusing Cheney of bribery!!!" or something like that.

But I didn't. I just laid out the facts, and the other person came to that conclusion all on his own. I mentioned this to him, too. You should have seen the look on his face. He is now seriously questioning things he "knew" yesterday.

It's my favorite way to argue.

1. Okay.......tutor me.......
How exactly did you EXPLAIN to him that you didn't say it was bribery?

Cuase the way I would say it would evoke a "yeah ya did" "no I didn't" "yeah ya did" "no I didn't"

Your advice would be appreciated!!

3. It was pretty obvious to everybody there.
I only laid out the evidence. And he knew it.

I said something like, "I didn't accuse anybody of anything. You heard about Halliburton, B & R, and Cheney's million a year and came to your own conclusions."

2. love it
love it - you're just lucky the folks you are talking to actually listen while you state the facts. That is becoming increasingly rare in our society.

4. Even the conservative here are mostly Democrats.

I know that sounds weird, but nearly everyone is in a union or has family in a union. It's not difficult getting them to listen to bad things about Republicans.

I should clarify: Most of these "Democrats" really really support this war in Iraq. And they are terribly ill-informed. Many a Bush/Cheney supporter here. But since they pretty much consider themselves Dems, they are open to hearing bad things about them. I know it's not like that in most places. This is a weird area that way.

6. I think Dennis does it best!
Wolf: When you say corruption, Bush-Cheny corruption, are you accusing the President and the Vice President of the united States of being corrupt in terms of the problems that Enron had?

Dennis: ABSOLUTELY I AM!!

7. Yeah, that's another way to do it.
It depends on the audience you are trying to reach, I guess. When I'm talking with fellow Bush haters, I do a whole shitload of accusing.

And I suppose I WAS accusing Cheney of something in the conversation I mentioned in the first post. I just did it indirectly without saying the words.
