Wheels are in motion...
...things are looking interesting. This is looking like it may get very, very big.

I do feel it only fair to let you know that everything you post in the pertinent threads is being copied by attorneys.

Reaction to this thus far, from people with lengthy experience in exactly these type matters, has been openly expressed shock.

For those of you sympathetic to this, I will likely need your assistance for something shortly. I'll let you know what and when. A lot will depend on what transpires in NYC over the next few days.

For those of you expressing viewpoints from a management perspective, you have valid observations. The fact remains, though, that I did indeed comply with their wishes. I programmed the requisite "respectful and reflective pieces" that I was going to solemnly announce as "being played in conjunction with our national day of observance." Had the manager bothered to walk downstairs from the offices into the studios, picked up my printed playlist from the stack, then pulled the pieces and listened to them, he would have been able to grasp the timbre of the program. And I feel confident that what I programmed would have passed muster. That would have answered his questions.

Thanks to those of you who have taken your own intitiative. It's appreciated.

have no doubt things will turn out ok, for yourself....

am utterly disgusted with the situation and had no doubts DU would help sort it out somehow, and it appears that may come to fruition.

and that's good, too, 'cause it ain't just about you, it's all of us. if they think they can, they gon' get us all. and we can hardly afford to stand around and feel glum about it picking our noses shrugging about 'hey, what can ya do?'

best of luck, not that you won't get it anyway ;)

39. This is disheartening, misanthrope
on so many levels. Your original and subsequent threads and your posts not only exude self-respect, but were very respectful to your employer and NPR, as well.

It's hard to understand how anyone could jeopardize the livelihood of another. The people who live in that freeper's circle of the world should be wary of him because his type will do this or something similar again. There are boundaries in life that you do not cross and he crossed it.

Your employer's knee-jerk firing was wrong; and your employer's written response to the college student was inappropriately personal.

I wish you the very best, and you have my support. If there is anything I can do, I will help.

Have you seen this story (below)? It is a sorry time for all of us who have a left-leaning dissenting opinions. Whether it is you, the young man in the below article, the father/son who wore peace T-shirts in upstate New York last year, or for any of us who decide to have a dissenting opinion. This is America, land of the free?

University radio station in Alaska suspends student disc jockey for Reagan comments
Thursday June 10, 2004

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) A disc jockey at a university radio station who turned a Sunday radio show into a ``celebration'' that Ronald Reagan ``was finally dead'' has been suspended.

The disc jockey, a University of Alaska Fairbanks undergraduate who goes by the call name ``Spider Bui,'' said his show was a reaction to the media's positive portrayal of Reagan after his death Saturday. Managers at KSUA-FM said the show was in poor taste and was put on without permission.

Neither the student nor station staff would reveal the student's real name.

No tape of the show was available. According to the disc jockey, he berated Reagan for his foreign policy in Latin America, Iraq and Afghanistan, and for what the student called a ``homophobic'' response to the AIDS epidemic.

``I said that I was sick of all of the media that was glorifying Reagan and rewriting history that was pretty despicable,'' he said. ``Basically, what the gist of the show was, it was a celebration that Ronald Reagan was dead, was finally dead.''
