The fact that we have NOT, makes all this adulation and idol-worshipping, just plain cultish.

His tenure in office has yet to be vetted.. He sat on the parrot's perch for 8 years, mouthing words written for him.. His administration was cloaked in secrecy. He "planted the seeds" of the terrorism that we see today. His "people" oversaw the disruption of duly elected governments all over the western hemisphere, yet were never fully judged.

New rules need to be in effect. Presidents are our employees. We hire them every 4 years, and like any other employee, their "work" must be "reviewed" and evaluated BEFORE we pile on the accolades..

Those whose "body of work" pass muster, should be honored and revered, but the mediocre ones, whose papers are hidden away from close inspection, should be hidden away as well.. If their time in office does not pass muster, then they should not be honored.

Imagine Nixon completing his 2nd term with Watergate only coming to the light, years after he had left office (perhaps after a regal funeral)..

To the rest of the world, we must look like chumps..

Government IS accountability. The "let bygones be bygones" approach is much too casual, when millions of people's lives are forever changed by one man's whims.

Central America was forever changed (and not in a good way) by policies that Reagan set into motion, or allowed to happen because of his lack of attention. For America to deify him without even having vetted his term in office, is lunacy..

5. Every administration is a building block for the future oones
If the Bushies want to claim "Clinton's good economics" , they they must claim Ronnie & George 1's military adventures.. Their sneaky coups all over, led to the trouble we have now.

4. there you again
making an excellent observation and point

we need change now - we own those papers; and, their release should be automatic ... not controlled and covered-up by subsequent secret White Houses ...
