Observation of a couple of stupid remarks re Reagan's Funeral
In Lost Wages, Nevada, it seems that most of the TVs around the casinos are carrying Faux, or at least a local Faux-lite.

Some jabronie in an army uniform gets interviewed. The essence of his statements is this:

1. I entered the military in 1979, and I'm retired.

2. Ronald Reagan was the first President I voted for.

3. To see the President lie in state in the Rotunda is a "Once in a lifetime opportunity".

What set me off:

1. Unless you lie about your age, you enter the armed services at or after age 18. This guy entered in 1979. Two years before I graduated from High School (and shortly turned 18). I am about 2-3 years younger than this guy. He has retired from the military. Meaning that he may have put in 25 years. Maybe bought an early retirement, or could he have retired at or before 25 years of service?

2. With the analysis of #1, he would have been a valid voter for Reagan in 1980. Reagan ran in the primaries in the seventies, but never got on the ballot as the GOP candidate.

3. "Once in a lifetime opportunity" - WTF? This is where my wife cut off the discussion. This guy apparently doesn't believe that there will be another Presidential funeral before he dies. Unless he decides to blow out his brains because his saint has passed. My wife, mother-in-law, and a friend discussed this, and we feel that Ford (next to go?), Carter, and Bush41 are likely to pass away before I would die.

Today, on an ABC broadcast (I think), some guy repeated the "Once in a lifetime" statement. He brought his son to watch RR pass by. That's the context of the statement. That his son was witness to a "once in a lifetime" event.

I got into an argument with my wife and friend over this. They ridiculed my logic that these idjits were trying to claim that personally seeing a presidential funeral is something that will never happen again in their lifetime. COME ON! A kid is never going to get the chance to go see another Presidential funeral??????

My friend and wife were trying to say I was stupid, that people were not flying in to DC/wherever just to visit the body in state or attend the funeral procession/whatever. I couldn't believe the ignorance of these people, and they were thinking that I was Nuckin' Futs!

Am I wrong????? Especially about the guy's kid?? I mean, that kid has several opportunities once he is old enough to attend on his own.

My friend said something to the effect: "If Clinton died, you wouldn't go to his funeral???" I told him "Fuck no. I wouldn't go to that either!" I've defended Clinton and tried to point out how W gets away with murder, while Clinton got major news coverage and investigations for little more than jaywalking.

AND THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO AGREE WITH ME THAT BUSH IS A FUC-ING MORON!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

2. So the guy was born between, say, 1960-63. That means he was
around for the "once in a lifetime" deaths of Truman (1972), Eisenhower (1969), Kennedy (1963), Johnson (1973), Nixon (1994) and now, Reagan. There's also a very good chance he'll be around to see Ford, Carter, Bush I and Clinton pass before he does, let alone his son.

Yeah. The guy was a moron.

3. You can retire from the service after 20 years
So he could've joined at 18 and retired at 38. Happens all the time.
