Not sure about up north. Though I would assume powergrids up north are related to Chicago (and fine) rather than Toledo/Detroit.

18. Columbus, Ohio is Fine
Columbus is okay; the line seems to be just north of us. The local reports say that Toledo, Cleveland, and parts of Akron are all without power.

34. The 'Nati's Got The Juice!!
We're fine in southwestern Ohio/northern Kentucky. There were some concerns at first, as there were various power outages around the area, but they have not been attributed to the problems back east and up north.

Good luck Detroit,
Jennifer

Or maybe I am able to use my computer because I have 80 prairie dogs on a treadmill turning the portable generator that runs my PC and supplies the shocks I need to keep the voices from penatrating my tinfoil bonnet.

edited cus I can't eat ice cream on a stick and type at the same time

27. Austin is fine
Though we had some nasty Thunderstorms for the last few days, and a bad heat wave last week.

Interestingly, the night the Supreme Court appointed * President in 2000 there was a terrible freeze in Austin and power was out all night.

28. Lansing, Michigan is out, as well as
Detroit (so I hear). I work directly across the street from the State Capitol building (and it was pure torture getting out of our building, let me tell you - no emergency lighting in the stairways). Traffic was horrendous. My normal 15-20-minute drive home took an hour and 15 minutes.

I live in a suburb - Okemos, and the power was out here, I hear, but by the time I got home, it was - thankfully - back on.

33. Apex is out here in NC
(that's a town btw) but that was a fluke due to something unrelated to the power outage in NE.
but otherwise, NC is otay!

remember we had the ICE storm back in Dec 02 that just knocked the bejeezus out of our power here, 8 days or so.
I don't know if it's any better in the summer with the heat, nah, i suspect it's worse in the winter with the limbs/trees falling through the roof with the ice.

hope everyone survives the present mess in the North.

wonder if Toronto and the rest of Ontario have got back to normal yet.

On edit places like Banff may have problems due to forest fire related power outages.

41. Brooklyn here - Power out
There's a 300 pound local kid wearing an orange vest and directing traffic on 5th Ave. He's drinking a beer discretely covered by a paper bag, and appears quite tanked.

Love NYC.

BTW - Stores here are closing down early. I'm out to the stoop to watch festivities.

43. Long Island
We live in one of two towns on Long Island that has it's own (and cheaper) power supply - though our village has had two rolling blackouts so far, lasting about 40 minutes each. We are very thankful to our village's founding fathers. We also feel bad for everyone else because it is so hot outside with no breeze in the air.

My neighbor is a dockworker and drives into the city every day, but he isn't home yet, and he's usually home before 4pm. He's like a son to me, so I won't feel right until I see that he is home safe and sound.
