Afraid to post Dem bumper sticker on my new black car...
It sounds incredibly wimpy but there are many crazy and violent wing nuts around and many pass through my busy area every day.
Does anyone else feel like this? I know they are so viscious they would just LOVE to wreck the look of a "lib'ral's" new car.
My brother sent me this freeper type email wherein they were kiddingly warning Dems not to drive in certain areas of the U.S. with political bumper stickers on their cars or their might be trouble. It was supposed to be funny but I wonder....
I would hate like hell to come out and see my beautiful new "baby" all scratched up.

21. Lots of stickers on my car
I have a new Chevy pick-up, and I put Kerrys sticker on it the day I bought it.

Right below it in the center of the gate, is one that says in large letters, " Any working person who votes Republican is like a chicken who supports Col. Sanders". There's also "He wasn't elected on 9/11 either", "The last time anyone listened to a Bush, folks wandered around in the desert for 40 years", "87,000,000,000, Thanks George", and a couple of others. I live in the Tampa area, and have had no problems. Last month I drove up to Cleveland, and I got a lot of thumbs up, nice comments, and only got the finger once in Macon, GA.

I came back into town 2 weeks ago, and I was almost home when I saw the license plate on the junker in front of me. It was "DUBYA". She was driving kind of slow, so I passed her and at each red light I could see her in the mirror, red-faced reading my truck. She had to lock up her brakes to keep from rear-ending me when I was making a turn.

On my previous car, I had "The road to hell is paved with Republicans". It was on there for almost 5 years, with no problems.

14. I know exactly how you feel...
I have a Jaguar VDP and am scared shitless that some freeper will destroy something on it. I have my Kerry sticker on it, but I also have a "DUMP BUSH 2004" bumper sticker in my glove box because I'm afraid to put it on my car. I also had bought some "BUSH LIED/THOUSANDS DIED" and when my husband saw them he said...."You aren't putting those on the Jag, are you?" :( I didn't. Any kind of repair on that car costs a bloody fortune and a key down the side would cost thousands of $$$$. I just don't know if it's worth that much money.

I don't think it sounds wimpy for you to NOT WANT YOUR NEW CAR DAMAGED! Cars are expensive. Maintenance is expensive and freepers are fucking NUTS!!!!

I see RW bumper stickers all the time! I wonder if they are worried about their cars? I would NEVER think of taking my key down the side of a car just because it had a Bush bumper sticker on it! Freepers ARE deranged!!!!!!

same tactics. amazingly most said yes. They (the majority) said take it to them. Every thing they do we should do back ten fold. Put some fear in their court for a change. If a car with Bush/Cheney sticker were to get keyed it wouldn't break my heart but I am not advocating for such.

16. I had a Gore bumper sticker and various other "liberal" stickers on my van
in 2000. While driving home from a CSNY concert late one night, someone tried to veer into me and run me into a cement wall by the side of an interstate hwy. where there was almost no shoulder. I recovered after almost crashing into the wall, and then they tried again. It felt like two wheels left the ground as I jerked the wheel to avoid crashing, and I have no idea how my van stayed on the road.

A passenger in my car managed to read the license plate of the other vehicle and wrote it down. I reported this to the police, but they didn't do anything about it.

The only reason I can think of for someone doing this was because they didn't like my politics.

20. I'm a whimp too.
I have a very valuable car that would cost a fortune to repair and I live in a highly right-wing, redneck area. I mounted my bumpersticker on some cardboard so I could prop it up inside my back window. I have it up while driving and remove it when I park. I try to eliminate any stress from my life, so this is a small thing to do.

My daughter...much braver than I...has hers stuck to her very nice car. She lives in the same area, is out and about a lot more than me...and has had no trouble at all.

At a Meetup recently...they claimed that one bumpersticker is the equivolent of $40,000. worth of advertising.

22. I have stickers on both my cars
I've gotten many middle fingers, had one guy cut me off (sling-shotted across my lane while giving me the finger), and my husband had a woman nearly run him off the road while giving him the finger. Way I look at it is, if they hit me - they're paying for it - PLAIN and Simple. Last time I checked, this was America, and I had the right to campaign for anyone I so choose, and I still had freedom of speech (despite all attempt of Dubya). I like my car, but I love my freedoms, and I am not going to let any rightwing Nazi keep me from my freedom of speech!

if you have metal on the back of your car. I get mine at www.northernsun.com They also have a wide variety of bumperstickers.
Lately I've been using these three on my way to work:
America:One Nation Under Fraud
Enron/Halliburton '04
Bush Lied, Thousabds Died

They say that a bumpersticker is worth about $600 in free advertising but I don't think it's worth getting your Jag keyed.

80. Made my own holder to put in the window
Since I have plastic bumpers on my car and magnets don't work, my stickers have to go in the window. I cut a sheet protector down to size, taped shut the open side, and it's hanging by two suction cups to the window with my DU bumper sticker in it. It is easily removed when you're not in the car. Haven't had any trouble so far, but I'm in a pretty liberal community.

24. Does anyone else find it sad what this thread is saying about America?
This is the reality of the America we live in! I am a teacher and I have always taught my students that one of the characteristics of American politics which makes it so different from many places in the world is the fact that Americans settle elections without violence! That is supposedly one of our defining characteristics. It's not true any more. The neocons have brought such hatred with them, that it's just not the same America any more.

is that my kids were in the car with me when that asshole nearly took out my front bumper - and they have been in the car to see every single middle finger shot at me, so I had to explain to my 5 year old that it was a very ugly thing she shouldn't repeat. That's what pisses me off! That these fucking "Family Values" nazis see no problem with shouting obscenities and giving the finger to a mom with three kids in the car. That these people who are SO concerned that "no child gets left behind" has no problem with trying to crash into a car full of kids. But you see, my kids don't matter, because I have a Kerry sticker on the back of my car, which makes my kids the enemy right along with me - just like the kids in Iraq. that's the mentality of these people. you are either for them, or You Are The ENEMY!

My car is an expensive car and yeah, I LIKE it or I wouldn't have bought it. Just because I don't want it ruined doesn't mean that I can't worry about my car AND other things at the same time. Wow! I can worry about 2, 3, 4, 5 things AT THE SAME TIME! Amazing.... I can multi-task! Both are under 4 years old. Mine was moderately priced, husband's is an economy car. We don't spend a lot of money on fancy cars, because status symbols are not important to us. Don't live in a big fancy house either, not because we can't afford expensive cars and a big house, but rather those are not our priorities. We live modestly, that way we can support causes we believe in with more than our words. It's just the way we are. Sorry if it so greatly offends you that I think a car is only a THING that can be replaced.

45. Just so I understand
You are afraid to put a bumpersticker on your Jag, a car that 97% of Americans can't afford to own. And you are are concerned that because you put a bumpersticker on it that someone else might disapprove of, they may "ruin" or "destroy" your car? (Your words, no exaggeration here)

I am not trying to make you or anyone else feel guilty about owning a nice car. If I could afford it, I'd own a nicer car, too.

But it seems to me that's a tough way to live. I fear my government a lot more than having my car scratched by some moran. That's all I'm saying.

All hail you and everyone else who drives a nice car who are afraid to show how you really feel. Meanwhile, every freeptard in the nation is driving a pickup truck with a tattered flag and a Bush-Cheney sticker. If you all had the guts to show how you feel, maybe we would be less likely to be in the predicament we're in now.

If you had lost your job 19 months ago, you might feel the same way.

Peace to you and your nice car.

Guess what? I paid LESS for my Jag than he paid for his fucking SUV...That shut him up! Do YOU know how much I paid for my pre-owned 3 year old Jag....3 years ago???? It cost less than pre-owned SUV's. So, don't tell ME 97% of American's can't afford a Jag. That's bullshit. I see SUV's all over the place. That's total bullshit...Stevie D.

every freeptard in the nation is driving a pickup truck with a tattered flag and a Bush-Cheney sticker.

I'm sorry. That just isn't true. A few weeks ago I saw a very nice Mercedes driving in front of me with BUSH/CHENEY 2004 on on side of his bumper and a Jack Ryan for Senate on the other side. A repub driving a Mercedes....go figure.:eyes: I live in a repub village....Mercedes, Jag's, BMW's, SUV's ect....all over the place.....they're repubs! Trust me. 57. Well, with all due respect to you
Your world is very different from mine.

I don't question your purchase of a Jaguar, and my assessment of the affordability is probably off, too. It surely gets better gas mileage than many of the vehicles you mentioned, and is probably comparable in price to many gas hog SUVs.

Look, you've been here (DU) a long time, and I agree with much of what you have to say. :) I'm really not trying to make anyone feel guilty for having a nice car. As I said, I wish I could afford one. My '85 Honda is pretty beat up, but everything works.

I guess where the rubber meets the road here (sorry - bad pun) is that when people in this country are afraid to show what they believe in as the original poster here mentioned, something is wrong. And I'd bet you would agree with that.

And I must have generalized about tatterflags and pickup trucks.

But a nice Kerry for President sticker would look really nice on your car!

Who's at fault here??? The damn freepers are. That's who.

I'm sorry I jumped on you. Really, I am. I hate having to defend my Jag. It pisses me off.

BTW....My brother-in-law swears by Honda's...he has owned a Honda for as long as I've known him.....a loooooong time. My sister (his wife) drives a Honda CRV...the little SUV. You're lucky you have a Honda. They last forever, are reliable and get great gas mileage. I had a Toyota Celica, 1987. I drove that car for 10 years, never had one repair on it. Not one. Honda's and Toyota's make very dependable cars.

Anyway....Truce Stevie D. :toast:

48. Yes , my car is important
It's a matter of being stupid or dumb. If a person thinks damage would happen, then it is stupid to put a sticker on your car.

My car is important to me because I'm poor. I have a ten year old van that I try to keep up as best I can. Some people can't afford to be cavalier about such things.

So, yeah, I agree with you. People dont make that much, and fixing a vandalized car is a big expense and inconvenience, might even require missing some work to take the car to the shop.

So, yes, thanks for your post.

38. For what its worth
I have three bumper stickers across the back of my car. The one in the middle says Regime Change Starts at Home - the one to the right says Don't Blame me I Voted with the Majority and the one on the left says something about the GOP and prosperity was boring anyway or something like that. I had been a bit concerned outside my local area - but I have driven from Northern VA multiple times - through NC, SC, GA and into central FL. I have not had any problems and ocassionally I even get remarks about loving my bumper stickers - but for the most part that has been in Northern VA which isn't as right wing as much of VA.

It's not just your car those wackos will damage. Your life and the lives of your passengers are in danger. :scared:

As for the vehicle itself, I have an older car that I love, which I cannot afford to replace. It's worth a lot to me, if not to the insurance company. If my car was vandalized, disabled, set on fire, or totaled I'd be out of luck big time.

I do NOT trust those idiots.

44. I know you are from Chicago...
I live in Edgewater and park on the street. In my back passenger window I have taped a bumper sticker "Regime Change Begins at Home". (Refuse to put it on the bumper where it is difficult to remove and hurts car at resale time.)

My street is all houses, I know my neighbors and everyone here loves the sticker and makes positive comments on it. However, I have driven -- on the northwest side -- and had assholes try to run me off the street, honk loudly and give me the finger.

Yes, there are crazy and violent wing nuts. My car is three years old (but a nice car, I bought the demonstrator and the manager who drove it was not happy about it) and I also don't want to have to pay to have damage repaired and which would force my insurance costs up even more than they are already living in the City of Chicago.

I'm in Canberra and put a 'Bush is the real terrorist' bumper sticker on my crappy Hyundai Lantra just before Bush visited Canberra late last year. A lot of cars here have the Greens 'No War' stickers on them, and the only attention mine has ever got is in carparks where people who agree with it strike up conversations about what an evil bastard Bush is...

I don't know how car insurance works over there, but if you have an excess on your insurance, you want to hope your excess is small and any jerk who wants to scratch up your car damages it so it goes over the excess. Or if yr the sort of person like one of my friends who just about bursts into tears when they find someone who parked next to their car has put a tiny dint in the paint by opening their door and hitting it, then bumper stickers of any persuasion probably aren't the way for you to show yr political leanings...

My brand-new 1988 Dodge Colt (wow! what-a-car!!) was towed in the fall of 1988, just because I parked it, for about 20 minutes, in a Dayton, Ohio republican-owned restaurant. I'm still bitter about the $60 I had to pay to get it out of hock... and I just know the Repubs who called the towing company reveled at my expense.

I hate tow-truck drivers. I can't begin to understand how anyone could perform that blood-sucking job. Don't lecture me, please... I've paid the piper enough times to start bitching about his practices. :-)

i am paraphrasing here but martin luther king said good people doing nothing is worse than the evil people acting out their evil. i think a lot of "right wingers" will be put in their place this november. i understand your fears about having your property destroyed but don't feel like you are the lone ranger. i used to vote more conservative than liberal but i have been so disgusted by bush and his schizophrenic horde of supporters, my heart has gone democratic. economically, i have had more financial damage done to me and my family than a keyed car. bush wants his band of predators to eat first and then leave whatever is left over for everyone else. i do what i can to stop bush and reclaim america for the sane majority.

:hi: Don't worry, we are all doing what we can to kick W to the curb in November even if we don't advertise it on our cars ...

BTW, Richard Rhodes and Elie Weisel both made the comment about evil thriving when good men do/say nothing. It is obviously a common theme and enduring truth, one that the evil-doers in the West Wing know all too well that's why they want to keep us silenced in first amendment zones and paralyze us with fear.

Thankfully, newbie, many people, including many conservatives, are seeing the truth. Welcome again and continue to spread the word.

Sure, there are isolated incidences, but campaign stickers rarely incite violence.

I live in Alabama and have a Kerry sticker on my car. I have yet to receive even a bad look. Actually, I've been sort of disappointed because I can't wait to give the peace sign to the first person who gives me the finger. Oh well.

So, the point is that if I haven't gotten squat in Alabama, then your car should be fine.

93. I know what ya mean. My son (19) had two small stickers
on the back of his car. Both about the size of a deck of cards. One was the human rights watch sticker and another was a rainbow flag.

We live in the Fl. panhandle and while he was at work one night someone keyed the word "faggut" on his trunk. That's how they spelled it.

He is home from college for the summer and works at a gas station/convenience store. The good news is that the person was caught on camera. No license plate but we do know the make and model of the car. The kicker, it was a family. The man was seen hovering near the trunk area and then physically touching the car. No other persons were near the car that day.
Then the man entered the store and met up with his wife and two small children. They paid with cash. Since it is close to the beach in a tourist area it could be someone from another state.

96. Oh Geez
Live on the edge. Put it on. I live in DALLAS for crying out loud and I have TWO Democrat stickers on my car. I've had nary a negative response.

They are a bunch of asshat windbags who talk a big talk. Put them on, be proud. You think THEY'D hesistate for one second to put their stupid * sticker on in a liberal area?

Go for it. It's painless. And you are giving hope and comfort to other Dems and liberals out there who see it. That's why I sport mine.

101. I put a Kucinich sticker in my rear window..
Above that is "A village in Texas is missing it's idiot" I saved a large protest poster from the June 5th march that I am going to put in my front yard. It is an image of Bu$h with the word LIAR underneath. I am worried about vandalism but goddammit I will not be silent!!!
