The Sadness on the Face of America
How did you feel when you saw this photo?

When I saw the sad look on this Marine's face, I felt it was symbolic of more than the loss of an icon, it summed up a general sadness and disillusionment in America today.

Regardless of your feelings about Reagan, doesn't this sum things up?

1. The sad look of a man forced by duty to go against his better judgement.

He's gotta do it, but it sucks and he knows it's wrong.

(I know the context of the picture, I'm just generalizing on the iconography of the image.)

4. Nothing like a circus
atmosphere such as Ronnie's funeral to bring forth the tears and spilling of emotions. Churchy pomp and circumstance works well for national unity. Hitlarian.

5. Welcome to DU vickiss
There is so much sadness on all sides these days...beyond politics.

I just thought this pic was an icon of the tragic state of affairs.

6. I saw three black pall-bearers...

Were they ordered to carry his casket?

Dozens of pics and quotes don't show Reagan to be for civil rights. Quite the contrary, actually.

Also, the marine has what looks like a German iron cross as a medal... top that with the Marines' logo, a big eagle whose talons are clenching the Earth with an anchor rammed through the middle (rather like the KAOS logo combined with the Star Trek parallel universe dagger-through-Earth logo) and one has to worry about imperialism and domination for real...

7. I think some people will believe anything.
This fellow was a child when Reagan exploited the
fears and hatreds in this country.

He is crying for a myth from his childhood of the
shinning city on the hill.

I see nothing but illusion.

8. Good God, NO!
I am sooo freakin' sick of all things Reagan, of the hero-worship and thoroughly undeserved sympahty on THIS forum, of not being able to turn anywhere without being hit in the face with All Things Reagan.

He was a terrible President and did great harm to this country -- harm which not only are we not over yet, but which paved the way for Bush2.

If this Marine is weeping at Reagan's funeral, there's NOTHING in his face that symbolizes anything but the DELUSION of about half of the American people about just about every farkin' thing and especially All Things Reagan.

For any of the rest of you who just HAVE to post yet another All Things Reagan thread, puhleeeze at least have the courtesy to put REAGAN in your thread topic so those of us who are fed up to here with All Things Reagan can avoid -- and hide -- the damned threads.

9. My reaction to the photo? "Typical lifer"
As an ex-marine I can see all the trademarks of a typical lifer, as we called the jerks who had been totally brainwashed by the BS.

Either that, or he's sad that he's not sitting in the NCO club chugging beers and trading lies.
