1. Al Gore
I've always thought the party's leader was the last presidential nominee, until the next nominee takes the position. Wrong?

2. I had the weirdest feeling... because I really don't know! I chose
Clinton, but he really isn't, is he? I thought that the "leader" should be somebody WORKING ACTIVELY for party issues. And Clinton's position as an ex-president, or the writing of his book, or... so many possible reasons has not really been a "leader of the party." He is a symbol but leader? Help me here.
Daschel is out. Pelosi has been showing more and more courage but not enough coverage by the media. Kerry is our presumptive candidate but if I think about "THE PARTY"... maybe when he is the official candidate or THE PRESIDENT.

22. Kerry is beating GB in every poll
Edited on Sun Jun-13-04 12:48 AM by TheWizardOfMudd
John's job is not to stand on a soap box and try to convince everyone to agree with him.

His job is to win the election.

As long as he is ahead, he is doing the correct thing by not making potentially negative waves.

ANYTHING to get that evil, moronic idiot out of office.

15. John Kerry...
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 11:03 PM by flaminbats
Clinton was four years ago, just by virtue of being the Democrat with the most power and influence in government. In 1976 the most powerful Democrat was Mike Mansfield. From 77-81 it was Jimmy Carter. From 81 to 84 it was Tip O'Neill. In 84 Walter Mondale was briefly the leader of the party. Then Jim Wright was, until ousted as House Speaker. In 1988 Dukakis was the Democratic leader. Then the torch was passed to Senate Leader George Mitchell, which he carried until Clinton became President.

It can be argued that Tom Daschle was briefly the leading Democrat after Bush became President. But after the passage of Bush's tax cuts and losing the Senate in 2002...I think it is safe to state that our party has been leaderless until now. Now the question is where shall John Kerry lead us?

Who doesn't think we have much of a singular leader - We have Pelosi to lead the charge with legislation, Kerry to lead against the pres., and Clinton to provide the ideals...

19. Clinton should provide advice and knowledge...
Pelosi can't do much in a Republican House, which will not even allow votes on Democratic bills or amendments. The best we can hope for is to take every advantage of the filibuster in the Senate...if Daschle wasn't such a wimp!

Kerry IMHO should be providing us with the ideals and the vision. Why have a former President do what the nominee can only do himself?

33. You may call them leaders, but I call them rats...
Put them in a maze and we could condition them to move down the path toward cheese or a path toward cocaine. Perhaps, if we really wanted to, we could make the more dominant rat addicted enough to kill other rats for that cocaine.

A leader listens to the people he or she represents, presents them with a vision to win support, and finds ways to inspire them or motivate them to unite behind an achievable objective. I find it doubtful that a rat could ever demonstrate those abilities.

23. head says Kerry. Heart says Clinton. I know what Clinton believes in,
and I'm willing to listen to any argument he wants to make, and 9 times out 10 I think I'm going to agree with him.

Whoever says Gore hasn't been reading the books I've been reading. The more I learn about the shit he did under Clinton (helping out wall st, privatization, the telecoms) and the more I read about Joe Lieberman whoring for the accounting firms, the more I think we're lucky this guy isn't hte leader of the party. I'm afraid of what he might have turned the party into.

32. Clinton is the rock star, but how the hell is he the leader?
Exactly in what direction has he led us for the last 3 years? Not to slight him, but has far as I can see, both he and Hillary have backed up Dumbya 100% the whole time. They both supported the invasion and NEVER contested Bush's ludicrous WMD claims.

If anyone, it's Nancy Pelosi. She's doing an admirable job.

37. He has the ability to persuade. And discouraging Democrats from arguing
that Democrats should try not to be perceived as the party that wouldn't look out for Americans' security is not "backing up Dumbya 100%." It's helping Democrats not have a hard time getting elected.
