WWJD? (Probably go see the movie Saved!)
Saw this at a film festival this weekend, got to talk with the director and producer. Great film that highlights the hypocrisy of the right-wing evangelical Christian movement and exposes it as the hollow sham it is.

Good girl" Mary (Jena Malone) and her popular, influential best friend, Hilary Faye (Mandy Moore), are starting their senior year at the top of the social structure at American Christian High School. But when Mary finds out she’s pregnant, Hilary Faye and her devoted "disciples" turn against Mary and the school labels her an outcast. It's as an outsider, however, that Mary finds true friends – other students the school doesn't quite know what to do with. In this sweetly subversive comedy, a group of strangers band together to navigate the treacherous halls of high school and make it to graduation, ultimately learning more about themselves and finding out what it truly means to be Saved!.

1. Did you talk to Michael Stipe?
:D

I would have liked the movie more, I think, were my young sister not pregnant. It hit too close to home for me.

2. No....Brian Danelly (the director) and Sandy Stern, one of the producers.
Danelly was telling us about how he was debating Jerry Falwell on CNN last week about the movie, and Falwell admited he hadn't even SEEN the movie. Refuses to watch it...thinks it is the most vile thing to come out of Hollywood apparently. Also thinks it will help bring about the rapture.

Danelly also said that when they screened the movie with Christian audiences, there were a lot of evangelical Christians who like the message the movie tries to project. He even said there were two nuns that loved it.

3. Wanna see some HONEST Christians?
A significant number of DUers consider themselves to be Christians, but here's a few celebrities who are not only liberal, but Christians as well:

Bono.
Dick Smothers.
The members of Sixpence None The Richer.
Alice Cooper.
Jane Fonda.
Stephen Baldwin (brother of Freeper hate-object Alex).
Alanis Morrisette.
Dennis Kucinich.
Martin Sheen.

And that's just the white celebrities.
