Retired Diplomats & Generals Ask for bush to step down this week

(AP) Angered by Bush administration policies they contend endanger national security, 26 retired U.S. diplomats and military officers are urging Americans to vote President Bush out of office in November.

The group, which calls itself Diplomats and Military Commanders for Change, does not explicitly endorse Democrat John Kerry for president in its campaign, which will start officially Wednesday at a Washington news conference.

Among the group are 20 ambassadors, appointed by both Democratic and Republican presidents, other former State Department officials and military leaders whose careers span three decades.

Prominent members include retired Marine Gen. Joseph P. Hoar, commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East during the administration of Bush's father; retired Adm. William J. Crowe Jr., ambassador to Britain under President Clinton and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Reagan; and Jack F. Matlock Jr., a member of the National Security Council under Reagan and ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1987 to 1991.

1. happy birthday poppa ..
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb_news.jsp?ymd=20040613&content_id=769681&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp

So it was only fitting that Bush would ring in his 80th birthday on Saturday with a glitzy, star-studded bash at Minute Maid Park, home of his favorite baseball team.

I started wondering .. does this mean we have to have TWO BUSH LIBRARIES? Is that even fair? gaaaaaaawww

4. Don't laugh. I had an aunt whose maiden name was.......
the same. Poor woman endured really horrible taunts as a kid.

This is great news, and if it's broadcast on C-SPAN, please try to post a heads up. I can't get C-SPAN1, but have a friend who can tape it for me, with notice.

This is such and unusual move.......what results do you expect from it?

5. i expect the republican party to fracture and regroup
they seem to want to distance themselves from the iraq war and seeming chaos. even bob novak distances himself from the NEOCONS but it's a silly gesture, he's one of them.

the new word neocon is odd, because they are ALL hardcore conservatives at heart. all things change, for good or bad. and change is in the wind now at last.

6. They are called 'neocons'
because the founders of the movement by and large used to be Trotskyites. For those unaware, Trotsky and Lenin battled for influence over which version of Marxism was to guide the fledgling Soviet Union's path and Lenin won (until Stalin deposed him). Trotsky fled to Mexico, IIRC.
