Fineman on Imus praising his colleague Ron Reagan (the younger)
Howard Fineman appeared on Imus this morning, and when Imus asked about Ron Reagan's eulogy, Fineman said that he had worked closely with Ron for MSNBC and knew him well. He went on to describe a great guy -- nice, unpretentious, charming, and possessing some of his father's gifts (strong views and the ability to articulate them in a way that doesn't put off people who disagree). He said Ron is quite open about his negative view of Bush. He said he would not be surprised if Ron is approached to run for office in Washington state, where he lives, presumably as a Democrat.

And, re. DU discussions about whether the press would ever stop calling W a "popular President" (sic), Fineman said: "Bush is so unpopular these days"...or words to that effect. He said the Bushies' try to tie W to Reagan the first couple of days last week had failed. He said that Democrats' praise of Reagan had aided in highlighting the contrast between the personas of Bush and Reagan. He said that he doubted the Bushies would seek political help from Nancy -- they are after badly-needed Catholic votes, and for that reason are not going to change their stem-cell policy.

1. The bushies are engaging in the behavior Ron accused them of.
Using politics for political gain. Let all those with life threatening illness suffer because WE MUST WIN. That is compasssionate, huh?

Got to get those Catholic votes! Well, my family is Catholic and not one of us will vote for that SOB.

2. W pales in comparison to Reagan.
"He said the Bushies' try to tie W to Reagan the first couple of days last week had failed. He said that Democrats' praise of Reagan had aided in highlighting the contrast between the personas of Bush and Reagan."

And that is EXACTLY what happened last week. The more undecided voters and independents (and maybe even moderate Republicans) reminisced about Reagan, the more they realized how poor Dubya is.

Amazing... I didn't foresee the week-long Reagan-O-Rama actually HURTING Bush.

3. The Reagans NEVER invited the Bushes (Babs & Poppy)...
to dine in their private residence in the White House.

In 8 years.

Makes last week seem truly weird doesn't it?

Especially the tearful sound byte from Poppy.

4. Ron Jr
In a recent Salon article, Ron told the interviewer he would never run for political office, he just doesn't have the stomach for it.

He also mentioned that he can't recall meeting W, but apparently he did once, with his wife, Doria. Then he went on to say that he would like to provide his wife's opinion of W, but he doesn't like to use profanity. Hee hee.

6. Vatican....
The vatican is against it, along with abortion, gay lifestyle of any kind, women as priests, etc.

But, American Catholism is not a unified religion. It depends on your priest I think. Our priest is obviously gay but NEVER talks about modern politics.
