Hannity and Podesta Square Off

In an interview on June 3, American Progress CEO John Podesta said, "I think when you get so distant from the facts, as -- as guys like Limbaugh and Sean Hannity do, yeah, I think that tends to -- it kind of -- it tends to corrupt the dialogue." Apparently he struck a nerve with Fox News' Sean Hannity. Hannity challenged Podesta to "defend and explain one example where I -- where I said something that was so false." Tomorrow, Podesta will appear on Hannity and Colmes, which airs at 9PM on Fox News. If there is a specific Hannity falsehood you think he should mention, send it to [e-mail].

1. Franken did a great list of them a while back.

It was a bunch of lies about Kerry, I think.

I'm excited about this. Heynutty has really set himself up for major egg on the face. I may just tune into Heynutty and Creampuff.

But Hannity may just duck and weave.

I loved the bit in "Lies and the Lying Liars" where Franken met Hannity and challenged his support of Rush Limbaughs claim that the "White House Dog" bit was an accident on the part of an underling. just the deceptive nature of Hannity (can't even tell himself the truth) shone through.

4. Meh, Hannity will still control the button and the editing.

He'll shout over Podesta, cut him off, and insert a commercial break if Podesta does manage to get a word in.

Even if Podesta beat him to a pulp and the exchange could not be edited to put Hannity in a flattering light, the following day, Hannity would claim he made a fool of Podesta and repeat the mantra until all his viewers believed it.

Moral of the story: No one to the left of Musolini should EVER go on right wing talk radio or Fox News. Let them slowly starve in a dwindling pool of ideologues and "conservative pundits". Let them become a parody of themselves. Don't hand them undeserved credibility by allowing them call themselves "fair and balanced".

5. FINALLY a voice a reason! I've been saying the same thing, the only

reason these shows are remotely taken seriously is because they get credible guest to appear on the show. It's like giving an interview with the National Inquirer and expecting your quotes to be verbatim! No one should even turn on FOX. Just let it turn into another religious channel.

7. Why not?

Some of what Ayn Rand believed was right on. Especially that no-one has the right to initiate the use of force in transactions.

Where she goes astray is in denying that right to a constitutional government - in order to collect taxes to support the general welfare of the nation. The Utopian notion of a tax-free society where everyone is a private agent for themselves - negotiating for services from private contractors is absurd on it's face. Not even the staunchest libertarians actually believe it is practical or possible.

So, instead of screaming about the brutish state, why not work to make the state represent the true interests of the people, and not the corporations? That's called democracy.

9. not to be trite

but i get a feeling a lot of people here dont believe in capitalism as it sets, and she was really quite a genious in her understanding of capitalization of assets and wealth creation. just didnt seem to jive with the "look and feel" of the average DU'er. :)
