Love those New Yorkers! Partying with candles and "spirits" in the dark,
whooping it up! That's what I remember from the last black out when I lived in NYC and got out of the subway I was trapped in for a couple of hours.

The spirit of America lives on in those hearty souls who had to live through 9/11 and still they can find fun in a night of darkness.

Aaron Brown just showed scenes of partying in the pubs with candles. That reminds me of us here on DU....we are carrying on in the darkness and perservering inspite of the horrible stuff we've gone through with these squatters in the White House!

I hope good things will come out of this. I hope questions will be asked about why we havent seen Tom Ridge speaking in person to us....why it took so long for Bush to speak to the Northeas and the Nation.....WHY?

They haven't learned from 9/11 how to talk to the American People whom they are responsible to.....who pay their salaries.

They are silent until forced to speak because of the political realities.

I hope this event Wakes Up America.........If it doesn't then I guess we just keep working like we have before.....but this is a massive failure. Questions must be asked........it will be hard to just fluff this one off with millions left in streets with no transportation to get to their homes...and the thousands trapped in elevators and subways wondering what the hell was going on. We are seeing the Press Fluff.......but there are folks suffering....but trying to make the best of this from NY to Canada!

NYC's the best. I grew up out on Long Island and LOVED going to Manhattan as a teenager.

It's truly America's city. We should all feel pride in it.

And..... New Yorkers are, despite common opinion, among the nicest people in the world.

3. Wow....
"That reminds me of us here on DU....we are carrying on in the darkness and perservering inspite of the horrible stuff we've gone through with these squatters in the White House!"

I never cease to be amazed at the people who actually make these kind of connections. I'm a plain black-or-white kind of guy myself and am usually not the first one to draw parallels like this. :)

(This is not sarcasm, BTW; genuine compliment)

8. Still operating on battery.
I won't last much longer. Light is flashing; battery about to expire.

Hot as hell here. No running water. Electricity MAY be back in midtown around 1 a.m.

Haven't heard any sensible explanation yet. Heard Bush on transistor radio. (Eek!) Also heard Pataki.

Very hot. :hi:
