How will the media ho's react when Kerry is elected?

Will their disappointment be visible/palpable? Will they say, as did Justice O'Connor in 2000, "Oh my God this is terrible!"? Will Wolfie break down and cry on CNN? Will Judy Woodruff slit her wrists on the air? Or will they be respectful of the President-elect?

I think they will be shocked, and their shock/disappointment (dare I say "shock and awe") will be visible.

I personally don't believe in monolithic media power and plan on either side. Some in the media will be upset (at FOX news for example), but others will just deal with it.

8. If Kerry has an ounce of sense and moves to break up big media,

the mainstream media will work to tear him down night and day.

If he doesn't, then we'll see a repeat of the Clinton years, with the maniac right wing press acting as the rudder for the mainstream. They'll introduce an endless stream of ridiculous smears into the public discourse, which outlets like CNN and the New York times will happily run with.

Either way, I expect we'll suddenly see a return of open criticism of the President. Not just the job he's doing, but his personal life.

so there's no reason whatsoever not to. Look what pandering to the media conglomerates got Clinton....

He needs to use the power of the executive to promulgate (actually, reinstate) rational broadcast regulations. This can be a very popular move, if it's handled correctly- as the media isn't held in high regard by anyone.

Oh, the whores will holler, scream and whine- and the moves will get A LOT of coverage (unlike the way deregulation was systematically concealed), but the coverage will also be a great opportunity to educate people as to why the rules are important and show people how much better television and radio could be- if the public interest standard were actually enforced.

10. They'll require a smackdown

First they'll be in awe of what most of th editors and reporters will consider an anomaly in their lifetime- a solid Democratic majority. Then their cognitive dissonance becomes too great, the America Is A Conservative Country meme drilled into them for forty years will act up. The hard disk reset will kick in and they'll try to figure out to what extent this majority may be hollow and whether these folks can be bullied, as the media has been able to do to Democrats since the realignment of '64/'68.

They do respect being kicked, publicly exposed as hacks, and will whore as is necessary for selective access, though. Get at their company's bottom line and watch the editorial -political line shift drastically.

In short, they're an establishment that has stayed in bed with the Republicans since the late Carter days. And they need to be dealt with as such.

Aim for the stomach and don't stop just because they're down. It takes a bit of Stalinist tactics to shake their inner lickspittle Empire faith. Repentance and accountablity are good for the soul, and they will certainly need the reminders.
